The House of Seven Gables does not really have a good beginning. It starts

with Hepzibah Pyncheon living shut away in her house for over 30 years while her

brother Clifford Pyncheon is locked up. You would think these stories would have a

different type of intro. Its okay though, because later on in the story, it will all be put

together and make sense. This story has so much emotion shown in many different

ways. Most of the story takes place in the house. Why do you think it’s called the

house of seven gables? In my opinion, it takes patience and an avid reader to get this

story. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The House of Seven Gables can be best appreciated for

gothic themes of revenge, pride, and romance.

Hepzibah Pyncheon, the main character of the story, is the sister to Clifford

Pyncheon and cousin to Judge Pyncheon and Phoebe. She is a very strange lady,

considering the fact that she has locked herself in her house for about 30 years. She
