The Great Gatsby (2013) is a film based on the book of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald released in 1925 to mixed reviews. With the 18th amendment passed, instituting prohibition, organized crime and the rise of the rich are exposed in this film, especially by Gatsby. The movie represent its time period well in many aspects but fails to do so in the score of the film. The soundtrack consists of Jay-Z and Beyoncé songs fairly new when this movie was released. A fast pace is shown in this movie with the camera movements and the editing moving along quickly, perfectly representing the fast pace of the roaring 20’s. The set design shows downtown New York City very well, the same with the lighting. I can not say the same for the lighting, especially in the night, of Nick and Gatsby's houses. It seems unrealistic in the setting of the two houses. The movies retelling of the book is fairly accurate other than a few key misrepresentations. In example, the movie has chosen to introduce the reasoning behind Nick telling the story being that he has been placed in a sanitorium for alcohol
