In the film, Transcending Stuttering: The Inside Story, produced by Schneider Speech, the viewer was brought into the lives of seven individuals with a stutter. These individuals described their experiences with stuttering and how they have transcended the obstacles they have been faced with throughout their lives. The viewer was also given the opportunity to understand the powerful reality of both the low and high points that can be accompanied by stuttering. Throughout the film, these individuals made several striking points about the battles they face on a daily basis. Alan Rabinowitz was one of the individuals who made many significant statements about his stuttering. He mentioned that his stuttering had always bothered him and made him feel as if he was “only half of a person.” Rabinowitz compared himself to jaguars for the reason that they are remarkably strong as well as clever, yet have no voice to deal with human beings. I felt that this comparison was extremely powerful, yet sad to make. It gives the viewer an insight into how inferior a person with a stutter may feel in the presence of others. He described stuttering as having a glass wall preventing him from moving forward, regardless of the attempts made. I believe that this is a sound description of the ongoing and difficult battle of stuttering. I also feel that many people can relate to Liben’s statement as they may also go through frustrating situations in their lives. However, it is important to remember that a person with a stutter experiences frustrating situations more frequently. Not only as a clinician, but as a human being, I will be mindful of the daily struggles that come along with a fluency
