Film Critique (individual work) The movie Te doy mis ojos (Take My Eyes) is a Spanish romantic drama created by Icíar Bollaín in 2003. The movie was highly lauded for the emotional truths of its portrayal of domestic violence, and the internal conflicts of the character, it wins seven Goya Awards in 2004, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, and Best Supporting Actress and also nominated for the Ariel Award in 2005 in the category Best Iberoamerican Film. The movie talks about domestic violence by using the relationship between husband and wife, family and workplace. The aim of the movie is arousing public to concern about domestic violence, patriarchy and the relationship between patriarchy and the state in Spain. In the past, domestic violence is very serious in Spain. Since 1995, there are more than 1,390 women have been murdered in Spain by male attackers and 84 cases of murders of women by men have been recorded (Heckle, 2015). Because of the idea of General Franco, he thinks a woman was a man's legal property (BBC NEWS, 2004), girl need to obey to man. The old idea affects the public awareness of women problem, therefore the domestic violence has getting worse in that time. And then, when the film Te doy mis ojos came out, it makes a big reaction to the society and people began to pay attention to the problem.
