Duterte: Putting words into actions
Filipinos are facing a great predicament on whom to choose as the next lawful leader of the country. Among the running presidential candidates, Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte is the best choice. Rodrigo Duterte should win the 2016 Presidential elections because he will end the problems the society is facing. Just like what he did in Davao City, he can also make the whole country progress and make it a better and safe place to live in.

He has strictly implemented anti-discrimination law in Davao City. “I hate discrimination and I loathe bigotry,” Duterte said. Considering Davao City is in Mindanao, a conflict driven area. But under his leadership, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Npa, Mnlf, Milf, Foreigners all live harmonously in Davao City (Philstar Global). Did you know the presidential election is coming up? Yeah, sadly it is. It will be sad to see President Barack Obama go and see someone else take his spot. The two candidates for this year’s race will be Hilary Clinton from the Democratic Party, and Donald Trump from the Republican Party. I personally do not like either of them, especially Trump, but unfortunately today, I will give you some reasons to support him. Even though he has a tendency to speak without thinking, he is a great business man with leadership skills who always puts Americans first and loves all races.

Over the years, the Philippines has gone from being one of the richest countries in Asia to being one of the poorest. It has experienced growth and development since World War II. The current administration under President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is aiming for a more rapid growth in the coming years. In 2004, the Philippine economy grew by 6.1% surprising everyone. In 2005, the Philippine peso appreciated by 6%, the fastest in the Asian region for that year. At present, the administration is meeting its expected target growth and is continually looking positive for the future.

Using Kenneth Burke’s pentad as a means of analyzing this speech allows for better understanding who he places blame on and what he advocates. Moreover, Kenneth Burke’s pentad also aids in understanding the relationships between the five components of the pentad, as well as which one becomes the determinant in every part of the speech, told from the twenty ratios made up with the five components. In this final paper, I would use the model of Burke’s dramatistic pentad to tentatively explore the rhetorical motivation behind Charlie Chaplin’s speech.
