Ivan Illich 's speech wrote in a sarcastic way to critic about United State student, who volunteer overseas, in specific, Latin America. His discussed student’s good intention to help other but them actually not helping at all. They will be feeling powerlessness and the voluntary presence of receivers. The problems are students with less knowledge about the culture of the country they are volunteers in; they do not even understand the language, and too naïve with the thought that they come volunteer for several weeks or months will fix the problem that the village have. They might have a good intention, but without educated themselves to where they 're the volunteer and understand what the people there needs then it is useless. They will not be able they help others. They are not only wasting people time but also their own time. They will not gain any real experiences from the trip. Jim: I growth up in a good neighborhood. Our family never have any problem with money. I always have enough money to buy any that I want to buy. My life is wonderful until my parents got a divorce. Max: I got raise by a single mother. Our life is extremely hard. My mom has to work three jobs to just provide food in the table. Since I was 10-year-old, I already understand the struggle that my family facing. So, I never asked my mom for anything or I never want anything because I know that I do not need anything else expect food in the table every day. Jim and Max growth up in a different neighborhood, different environment, and they have different needs. The problem in each person is different and if you want to help either one you have to understand their background, who they are and what do they need the most at this moment.
