Musical concerts are undoubtedly an incredible opportunity to experience a great aesthetic pleasure by listening to the musicians perform in front of your eyes. The power of music can hardly be overestimated – it can transfer a number of messages, thoughts and feelings through the performed sounds. Therefore the one can comprehend the music in the best possible way only when it is heard live. Musical concerts are often revelatory and highly impressive experiences to me. His songs bring up a range of feelings, transmitting powerful energy which aims straight at the heart of all its listeners. Being honest in his songs and music is perhaps one of the greatest features of Gregory Porter and his musical talent. That is why his songs seem to be extremely touching and emotional. Gregory Porter commented on this property of his musical performance himself as he stated the following in an interview: “You’re very vulnerable, cos it’s just you, your body is the instrument” (McCormick). Never before have I heard such a precise depiction of what I have experienced during the concert as I watched Gregory Porter perform his songs. It felt as if he was no longer in the room, but somewhere far away, where his music was created. And as he drifted away further a sound after a sound, it seemed to me that he turned into the music himself, with every single note running under his skin, flowing in his blood, and going out as astonishing musical compositions. Well, he shows you do not have to be the smartest person to be successful and that never to give up on what you’re after. For example, he puts parts of his personal life into his music to show that just because he has fame and fortune that doesn’t mean he’s like any other human being. He sings and raps about love, passion, and loss. For one in his song “Hotline Bling” from his album “Views,” shows a loss of a friend, or maybe a lover and how things change and one you stop trying to make the relationship work, but turns out into just being “you used to.”
On Monday March 25, some members of the baseball team, my girlfriend, and I traveled to Murray State University to watch a concert performed by Nelly and the St. Lunatics. It was a terrible night to go anywhere because it was raining and storming the whole way, but there was nothing that was going to stop us from going to the concert. We where all so hyped up about it and couldn’t wait to head out. My brother, who attends Murray State, had gotten us excellent seats about seventy-five feet away from the stage.
During a musical performance many elements to be looked are not easily recognized by the average critic. A musical performance has multiple interactions taking place between the music, text, performers, audience, and space that all can contribute to a great performance. Overwhelming majority of the audience does not realize so much can be looked at during a single performance. At a performance by the University of Maryland Marching Band I was able to analyze the Musical Sound, Contexts of the Performance, and Interpretation of the Performance.
Music is virtually everywhere we go, no matter if it is background noise in a coffee shop or singing along while shopping for groceries, we can find music somewhere. The event I attended was the Flint Symphony Orchestra on October 8, 2016. I have never attended a symphony before so I was excited to go, especially since I had invited my friend to attend with me. For this event, I was already informed by my teacher that the symphony will be formal so we needed to look the part since others will be dressed fancy. ...xcited to have this experience. Part of the drama of the concert at first is felt when the musicians come in and sit down and begin tuning up their instruments. I would not be able to comment on the performance of the orchestra. During the performance, I seen the audience were moving with the music, but I felt like that everyone seems knows more music than what I learned throughout this semester. After I went home and did some of the research on these music I finally understand why these people like to attend the orchestra concerto, it was because that every piece of music has a history behind it. The Los Angeles audience seemed to me to be people who know music and who will listen to something new in a respectful way. All the same, when the more familiar sounds of the last piece were heard, I could feel a little sense of relaxation and fun coming into the room.

On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, I attended a musical concert. This was the first time I had ever been to a concert and did not play. The concert was not what I expected. I assumed I was going to a symphony that featured a soloist clarinet; however, upon arrival I quickly realized that my previous assumptions were false. My experience was sort of a rollercoaster. One minute I was down and almost asleep; next I was laughing; then I was up and intrigued.
The Philadelphia Orchestra is an American symphony orchestra in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their concert hall is at the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, where they perform for their patrons during their main season, September to May, in Verizon Hall. This has become the orchestra’s performance hall since 2001, since they also own the Academy of Music, which is the oldest operating opera house in the nation since 1957. The orchestra also performs for its Philadelphia audiences during the summer at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts. The orchestra was founded in 1900 by Fritz Scheel, who also acted as the first conductor. The current and eighth music director is Yannick Nezet-Seguin, who was appointed in 2012 (The Philadelphia Orchestra, 2016).
This time around I noticed something that I had never really noticed before, which is how much music can mean to someone. I understand that music can mean a lot to some individuals, however seeing that spark in someone eyes or in their facial expression is a whole other story. It is a story that is truly incredible to witness. It is difficult to describe what exactly this facial expression looks like because it is different for every person. In the musical world, there is so much that you can learn and take from a song. However, the only way you can understand a song is by picking up the themes that the artist has used to represent in his music. The way that the artist conveys his/her themes, is by the use of different literary devices to strengthen the emotion in which the artist wants to express the themes of his music. An example of artist portraying their emotions through their music, would be the artists Common and John Legend. In their song “Glory” they talk about the three themes of freedom/glory, togetherness, and power in peace, with the help of using simile, ballad, rhyme, anaphora and lyric.

I attended the Los Angeles Philharmonic classical music concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Friday 29 November 2013. The classical concert started at 8:00pm to the enjoyment of the huge audience that had been waiting for this amazing music extravaganza. Classical music concerts always offer magnificent entertainment and the audience in this concert was expectant to derive such entertainment or more. In attendance were Christian Zacharias who was the conductor and Martin Chalifour who was the LA Phil commanding Principal Concertmaster and Bach violin player. In readiness for the concert, I enjoyed a special dinner prepared for the audience. More specifically, LA Phil staffer introduced us to the evening classical concert amidst cheers from the audience. It was such a refreshing and joyous feeling to be part of this audience.

Research shows that “There’s this unifying force that comes from the music and we don’t get that from other things.”(Landau) Bruce Springsteen is a great storyteller and has captured some of the experiences of the American working class. Even when the lyrics are dark or the subject matter is depressing, he manages to provide hope, too. For as long as I can remember, my mother has been playing Springsteen’s music. When I hear a song of his now, it reminds me of driving down the road with the windows down belting out a song with my mom. As Dave Marsh from Creem Magazine prophetically wrote in 1975, “Springsteen’s music is often strange because is has an almost traditional sense of beauty, an inkling of the awe you can feel when, say, first falling in love or finally discovering that the magic in the music is also in you.” (Bruce Springsteen Biography 2)

Then audience members who were perfect strangers who were screaming loudest would turn to each other with knowing glances and smile because they were sharing the same excitement and connecting with one another over their love of this man’s music. There was no pushing or shoving to get closer to the stage – it wasn’t that kind of crowd. Instead, there was mutual respect for one another’s space within the confines of the too-small venue. Nobody wanted to be the person who ruined it for someone else. It was this respect that made the audience members’ connections with one another that much stronger – we were all here to listen to this wonderful man’s music and see his performance – and, of course, we were here to enjoy it.
