Even though all of the presenters did a great job with their speeches one speech that stood out to me was Gianna’s speech on the benefits of breakfast. What I like about her presentation was that as soon as she said the title of her speech I was instantly interested. I am someone who often skips breakfast so learning about reasons why I should not skip it was a very interesting topic to me. She spoke about her own experiences with the topic to establish credibility and did a really good job previewing what she was going to talk about. Another thing that I noticed about her right from the beginning was that she seemed very eager and excited about the presentation that she was going to give. She used the problem solution method of organization to set up her speech, which to me was the perfect way of doing things. She stated how skipping breakfast can be a problem and stated the effects that it can have on someone. Once all of that was said she went into various different ways of how this could be corrected and that it is essential to have a good breakfast everyday. She went into sufficient detail about the different health risks such as obesity, bad mood, and lower recognition. She spoke upon each other those individually and then said how even small breakfasts such as granola bars could drastically lower one risk to any of these symptoms. Also while she was speaking she did a great job mentioning where she got all of her different information. She mentioned different websites and studies that where done on her topic to provide credibility to the information that she was telling to the class. While she was presenting the body of her speech she was able to keep everyone’s attention the whole time just like when she was giving her introduction. This is something that is usually much harder to do in the body of the speech in comparison to the introduction. Her speech was very well organized composed of all the essential parts that make a speech good. Her presenting the content was also done very well. She held great eye contact with the audience throughout the entire presentation and her posture was also perfect. The slides that where in her power point were also very well put together in my opinion. The colors were appropriate for the topic; the blue and yellow coloring reminded me of a morning sky so I thought that fit the topic very well. There was a good amount of pictures of breakfast food and she didn’t put too much text on her slides, which made it better in my opinion because it did not take the audiences attention off of her. The small amount of text on the slides allowed her to just use it a cues for what she was going to say next and elaborate more about what was on the slides. Gianna’s speech really stood out to me for various reasons but the one that really stuck with me was the fact that it was a good topic that had relevancy to everyone that was listening to it. Jay delivers an inspirational message to twenty-year-olds to not waste away important years of their life in an unmeaningful relationship or career. Instead she stresses the importance of searching for a life-long partner sooner rather than later in life. She also talked about taking career risks while still young, because these opportunities will likely be indefeasible later in life. Jay 's main points were very effective in persuading one to consider living by this set of social standards. I learned significantly a lot more than I would have previously. The example of lactose intolerance was very interesting; it really did give prime reasoning to human adaption. The concept of current human evolution was surprising to me; it is shown through evidence that I would not have connected to before. I found value in the talk by how well it relates to real life events and how these examples give confirmation to this theory. Her slow yet concise way of speaking, coupled with easy to follow transitions allowed for a speech that was enjoyable to listen to. Her use of examples from her personal life allowed her audience to get a picture of who she was if they did not know, and allowed her to better relate to them by provided examples of how she is related to the college they are graduating from. Her reference to many modern political problems allowed her to bring up her important role as an activist and facilitated further understanding from the audience. While some areas of her speech were weak, such as the longer than needed pauses and her lack of consistent eye contact, to a few points where she didn’t speak clearly enough, the overall picture that was her speech was fairly strong. Looking at this speech, I hope to incorporate some aspects that I failed to include in my previous speeches. Some of these include her use of hand gestures to emphasize and exaggerate certain phrases and topics, and her combined use of appeals. This speech did not make me nervous nor did it stress me out. I felt comfortable talking about color blindness because I had a good understanding of what it was, making it super easy to talk about. I have also learned about different types of audiences and speeches including persuasive, informative, entertaining and delivering special occasion speeches. It came to my attention that whenever I was making these presentations or speeches, I needed to do so with confidence, consistence and practice before the actual presentation and completely eliminate the element of panic. It was also clear that capturing the attention of the audience and engaging them in the whole process, it was necessary to have a very strong introduction and also try and use visuals to deliver the message. It was therefore vital to respect each person’s diversity and cultural values (Lucas, 2011).
I absolutely loved Emma Watson 's speech on feminism. Nothing grinds my gears more than the "meninist" movement that fights for men 's rights, comparable to the "blue lives matter" movement. These are ignorant claims and undermine the mission of the movements they oppose. As Emma says, feminism is not about prioritizing women over men, but rather fighting for the equality of the sexes. I think it 's really valuable how she gives different examples throughout her life, demonstrating that this is not something she only recently experienced or a result of her fame, but an issue she, and many women, face since childhood. I identify with her in that I never thought it was a big dealt to be a feminist, I thought it would be seen as quite normal to be an advocate for myself and my rights.
