Beyoncé’s music video “Pretty Hurts” is a behind the scenes look at a beauty pageant on how women really feel trying to fit how the media wants us to look. The media makes women and girls feel that the only way they can be happy is by being pretty. The media sets the standards high for someone to be pretty enough to fit in. The video was released on April 24th, 2014; it was filmed at a small high school in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. It was filmed at a high school because the producers wanted the video to feel more like a small town pageant. The music video shows women who are almost anorexic trying to fit into dresses that are too big for them. Being anorexic is very unhealthy because your body is not getting all the nutrients it needs to protect itself. The music video also shows women trying to squeeze into dresses that are too small. This can be damage other women’s confidence in themselves because they feel need the need to be as skinny as that person and may try to find ways to lose weight. When people want to lose weight they tend to try and find the quickest way which is usually unhealthy for their body. One of the women in the music video dip a cotton ball into orange juice and eats it. This diet causes a body to feel full while not consuming many calories. It can be very dangerous because most cotton balls are made of chemicals which is not safe to consume and cotton balls can lead to an obstruction in the intestinal tract. Another way the music video shows to not gain weight is by taking diet pills. If women want to lose weight or maintain their weight, they should be doing it the right way by exercising and eating
