August heat is one of those mystery stories that make the reader want to keep reading in order to find out what happens next the author does this to create suspense and make his story exciting to get the reader to want to read more make the reader want to keep on guessing as to what's to come in the next chapter of the story. Most mystery stories always have suspense it isn't a good mystery if it doesn't I personally love when a story has suspense because it makes the story better and it makes me want to keep on reading it and the story becomes more interesting.

The flesh hung in rolls about his chin; it creased his huge, stumpy neck. He was clean shaven (perhaps I should say a few days before he must have been clean shaven) and almost bald. He stood in the dock, his short, clumsy fingers clasping the rail, looking straight in front of him. The feeling that his expression conveyed was not so much one of horror as of utter, absolute collapse.”
He didn't think anything of it that was until something spooky happened that will always be a mystery as to what happened to James Clarence Withenford and the man he met.

James did not know how he got the man that he drew or why the idea came to him he was just used to drawing any inspiration that came to him. When he was done he went to go have a walk the author brings a bit of suspense in what happens next because James ends up in front of a gate he did not know why or how he was there all he knew was that he ended up there after hours of walking. This part made me want to question why he was there and what was going to happen next because normally when the character ends up somewhere that he has no clue where he is it the story gets more questionable.
