This story is a very interesting one! It is exciting and sweet but also sad. It has many emotions. The story is told in first person who has no name. The story plays out as the narrator is walking down the street going west to east in Tokyo’s fashionable Harajuku neighborhood. He notices a girl walking the opposite direction as him (east to west) and automatically thinks that she is the 100% perfect girl for him. He ends up just walking past her and does not even think to ask to talk to her. He later talks to another person about the incident. He tells them that he wishes he would have just asked to talk to her. He thinks of all of the things that he would say and rejects about every idea he comes up with. The girl is not extremely gorgeous nor does she have the best clothes but she is still perfect in his head. She was in search of the 100% perfect boy. Just like the boy, she too was an ordinary lonely girl. When the two meet, she feels the same way the boy does for her. She knows that he is the 100% perfect boy for her. She could not believe that this miracle actually happened. It was too good to be true! When reading this story, it brings happiness to read a love story but it also brings a feeling of sympathy for the narrator. He saw this perfect girl and did not talk to her at all. He thought that she was the 100% perfect girl for him and all of a sudden she was lost in the crowd, never to be seen again. It was my first day in high school. Standing alone in the middle of the play ground looking for anyone I know or can talk to, my eyes was searching all over the place. A pretty blond girl standing alone was a scene that, for sure, attracted my attention then. The moment my eyes saw her, my mind started thinking of ways to talk to her. After some time wasted thinking, I saw a girl I know approaching the blond. Not willing to waste such opportunity, I marched forward toward them. We had a nice chat through which I got to know the blond girl. She turned out to be a very nice and friendly French girl who just arrived to Egypt few days ago. Not being able to forget her for the rest of the day even before I sleep, I kept thinking how I would ask her out the next day. After long night hours, morning finally came and I was off to school. Although I though the lines I would open my conversation with her many times, I kept hesitating whether to approach her or not when I saw her the next morning. To my surprise, the moment she saw me, she actually called on me, walked towards me saying hi while giving me a kiss on the cheek. With this, I understood that she actually likes me too and she wouldn’t reject my invitation for going out together. However, I was astonished when she replied “I have a boyfriend”. That was just confusing. To me, the kiss on the cheek was a clear message that I adore you. It was only years later that I understood that for the French, a kiss on the cheek is just saying hi. This kiss just meant totally different things for both of us.
In the article, “The Question of Poe’s Narrators” James W. Gargano discusses the criticize in “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe and tries to help the readers understand why Poe writes the way he does and identifies some of the quotes in his work. According, to Gargano, other authors view’s Poe’s work as “cheap or embarrassing Gothic Style” (177). The author is saying that Poe’s work makes the reader look at themselves not only the work. The author explores three main points. Some author thinks that Poe’s life is reflected in a lot of his work, uses dramatic language to show his style in work, and explains how Poe’s work manipulates his readers to understand.
Like many of Poe's other works, the Tell-Tale Heart is a dark story. This particular one focuses on the events leading the death of an old man, and the events afterwards. That's the basics of it, but there are many deep meanings hidden in the three page short story. Poe uses techniques such as first person narrative, irony and style to pull off a believable sense of paranoia.
Although they do not end up together in the end of the story, I believe this is the perfect example of social exchange theory from the male protagonist point of view. The more social interaction he shares with his love interest is the reward he is given, simply because his goal is to have more contact with her and ideally have her fall in love with him and live happily ever after.
Although their love has endured through many years, it has come to an end in the story. All throughout the story the couple is reminiscing about their life and while they are there are some odd details that are strewn throughout.
A stab in the heart by one’s own hopes is truly the cruelest way to leave this world. Sadly, that is exactly what happen to Sarah Cole in Russell Banks’ short story entitled, “Sarah Cole: A Type of Love Story.” The man who dated Sarah for a short period of time tells the tale. He calls himself Ron, for Ron could have been him, but he doesn’t want to say who he is for fear of looking cruel. He wants to believe what he did was right when he left her. They both didn’t handle their differences properly. The relationship could have been different if they communicated to each other what the relationship meant to them, if Sarah wasn’t so aggressive, and if Ron could let go of his vanity. All these aspects together caused the metaphorical death of Sarah because how Ron ended the relationship it killed all of Sarah’s hopes to having a better life.
I saw this beautiful girl in art class, it was kind of ironic since she was an art piece making another art. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. She was a brunette with high cheekbones and gorgeous face. She had a lean body and sparkling eyes. Her smile made the world smile. My words don’t do any justice to my angel. After seeing her, I followed her around for days. Just when you think she couldn't get any better she blows my mind. She is absolutely the most caring and kind person I’ve ever seen. She loves the simplest things, loves nature and especially animals. I couldn’t help it anymore, so I wrote her a letter expressing my feelings and without knowing I wrote it as a poem.
