Sitcoms on Ice

Sitcoms are commonly seen as one of the most popular programs on T.V, across Australia and the world, but what makes sitcoms so engaging to the masses? Fox 8’s The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom and is appealing to the masses due to its hilarious humour and the unidentifiable fact that the show draws you in and makes you feel as if you are part of the Simpson family, Matt Groening and James L. Brooks innovative episode of the Simpsons, ‘Lisa on ice,’ supports the argument, that sitcoms should not be pulped. From the start to finish of every show there are many comedy and humor techniques, character stereotypes and camera techniques show to help give the show a more original prospective.

Throughout, the Simpsons episode ‘Lisa on Ice,’ there are many different comedy and humour techniques utilized. These techniques are an immense part of what makes The Simpsons so popular to millions worldwide. These are recognized by their unruly senselessness and absurdity in the context of the situation. An example of this absurdity is from the sign outside the Youth center which states “SPRINGFIELD YOUTH CENTER ‘BUILDING UNREALISTIC HOPES SINCE 1966’” This portrays a satirical value of humour, in the interpreted scene of the episode ‘Lisa on Ice.’ Another example is. ‘Chief Wiggum “Alright I’m gonna make a little deal with you mugs. I’m gonna let you all out to see my team play the hockey game. If! You promise to return to your cells.” Prisoner Snake “Sorry, Pig. We can’t make that promise” Chief Wiggum “Alright, I’ll sweeten the deal. You can see the game and you don’t have to come back. But you have to promise, not to commit any more crimes, okay?” Snake. “No” Chief Wiggum “I’ll take that as a yes.”’ This depicts a ...

This essay possesses many points about the comedy, humour and camera techniques, characters, stereotypes and the values, issues and themes that have been utilized throughout the episode ‘Lisa on Ice.’ All of these techniques have been used to make the program more amusing for the viewers. This animated sitcom has busted the scales and is still today toping the charts as expected, due to its unbelievably stereotypical family, which gives an insight into the daily lives of an American family. The Simpsons is an example of a classic sitcom, and this essay proves that The Simpsons should not be pulped. This is due to the hilarious humour and the various techniques used to draw you in and make you feel part of the Simpsons family, this is what makes The Simpsons so popular to the masses.
