Development Plan
A development plan or a master plan or a town plan may be defined as a general plan for the future layout of a city showing both the existing and proposed streets or roads, open spaces, public buildings., etc. A development plan is prepared either for improvement of an old city or for a new town to be developed on virgin soil. Thus development plan aims at controlling the future growth of a town along preconceived and predetermined paths.
The concept of development plan was taken up to provide an instrument for preparing a framework incorporating various town improvement schemes and programmes. The town planner is expected to make the best use of available statistics on various aspects of urban area which he is developing. The town planning cannot be adequate without statistical information because much of the statistical information is based on factors which have economic significance. With the aid of statistics, the town planner can use economic forces to increase the usefulness of his plans.

To give graphical representation to various ideas and proposals contained in the development plan of a town, various maps and drawing are to be prepared. Following are the details contained in the udual drawings prepared for the development plan:
