In the Amtrak case, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a business approach that contributes to ecological development by delivering economic, social and environmental benefits for all stakeholders. CSR is a concept with many definitions and practices. The four areas of corporate social responsibly these companies must show economic, legal, ethics and philanthropic and each company has an area to cover. The four important aspects when considering Corporate Social Responsibility. First there is the Legal aspect, then economical, followed by ethical and completed with the area of philanthropic. When I think of legal aspect of this case, there are many different factors to consider. First, the fact that Amtrak is now required by law to consider the cause of the derailment which will cost them money. Amtrak will need to compensate the families who lost their loved ones during this horrific event and deal with the lawsuits that are sure to happen. Who is legally responsible for this incident? From the report, it was ruled as a normal accident. This may be the case since it was not due to negligence on the locomotive operator or the tugboat captain. It was an unfortunate event that resulted in the loss of several lives. As a nationally recognized company Amtrak, it is in their best interest to compensate the passengers and the loved one’s families to maintain a good public reputation. It is their task to find all affected stakeholders involved and make sure to meet their needs. It is also important that they increase their public relations. When an incident like this happens, the public rarely will remember the small details that it wasn’t even Amtrak’s fault. All that will be remembered is that Amtrak had a huge crash that killed 47 people.
