Every one deserves their own rights, black or white, man or woman. The American Revolution was a product of the Protestant reformation and the Enlightenment because the early American Colonists wanted to have their own power, authority, and independence. The Enlightenment was a period of change of thoughts for the western European world through science, literature, philosophy, society, politics, and economics. The American Revolution was much like this due to the early American colonists wanting there own independence and freedom. During the Protestant Reformation of Europe a new church founded by Luther emerged among different religions during this time period. The American Revolution is much like the Protestant Reformation because colonists from England came to early American for religious freedom having the wide range of diversity of religion within America today. The American Revolution is similar to the Enlightenment and the Protestant Reformation because all three of these historical events were a time of change. The enlightenment changed Western Europe forever.

We can see today that America is a cultural diversity. Tradition still carries on from that time as it was back in colonial times of the revolution such as in New England the majority were Puritans, the Middle Colonists were a mixture of religion such as Quakers, Catholics, Lutherans, Jewish and many others where as the South, much like today, was filled with Baptists and Anglicans. While both show several similarities, they predominantly differ on most things. Politically, American conservatives respected the individual and property rights of a citizen, while French politics respected the individual rights, took property rights in some cases, and used terror to influence people. Economically, the American free market idea left the economy alone, while the French input socialist ideas such as price ceilings. Religiously, the America closely associated itself with religion in the revolution, while the French public mostly despised the church.

By 1763, although some colonies still maintained established churches, other colonies had accomplished a virtual revolution for religious toleration and separation of church and state. Between the two established churches, in the colonies, Anglican and Congregational, a considerable number of people didn't worship in any church. But in the colonies with a maintained religion, only a few belonged to it. As in England, Catholics were still discriminated against, but since their numbers were fewer the laws were less severe. Similarly, The Church of England was established in America, as it was in England already. However, in America the Congregationalists and Anglicans were the more dominate religions compared to the Catholics in Europe and England.
Unlike previous centuries, the eighteenth century was the dawn of a new age in Western Europe where intellectuals thrived, science was honored, and curiosity was encouraged; and the framework of how civil society was changed as a whole. From the dawn of the Enlightenment Western European culture was changing due to the revolutionary new ideas that were changing. With the social change going on, political change was as ever evident as time went on. With these changes rooted in social change went out, the effects of the Enlightenment can be seen over 18th century Western Europe and beyond.
Religion and government in England had always gone hand in hand, and if one group’s ideas did not coincide with England’s laws controlling the practice of religion, they would be denied. The unification of church and state within European countries led to many wars, resulting in massive debt. As England declared themselves a Catholic country, Protestants who did not hold the same beliefs needed a new homeland where they could be free to worship in their own way. This new homeland was America, and it allowed Protestants, now calling themselves Puritans, to practice Christianity without government interference. While original settlers came to America to create a Christian homeland where they could practice their faith how they wanted, America quickly became a homeland for religious freedom through a mixing pot of differing religions, cultures, and ethnicities, enough open land for them to exist together, and the key idea of the separation of Church and State.
The Enlightenment period in Europe was a shift in the way that society thought about power and liberty. The ideals of this period helped to inspire the revolutions of the 18th century. The American colonies desired liberty from foreign rule, the French wanted to increase the power of the people in their class structure, and the Haitians fought for representation for the millions of slaves on their island. While the ideas of the enlightenment were not fully employed in each of these revolutions, they brought the nations closer to a fully representative government, rather than one of absolute power. The American revolution was a reaction to unfavorable tax policies from the King of England.
The Enlightenment was the time period that followed the Scientific Revolution and was characterized as the "Age of Reason". This was the time when man began to use his reason to discover the world around him rather than blindly follow what the previous authority, such as the Church and Classical Philosophers, stated to be true. The Enlightenment was a tremendously broad movement that dominated much of the European thinking during the 18th century, however, several core themes that epitomized the movement were the idea of progress, skepticism against the Church, and individualism.
The Enlightenment itself ignited the changes in perspective that were needed to provoke improvement in society and set new standards for our future. Revolutions are usually described as “radical” events. A “radical” event is defined as one that greatly changes the political, cultural, social, and/or economic nature of a society. I believe that the American Revolution was a radical event that dramatically changed our society. There were many impacts to the changes such as slavery, primogeniture, the Articles of Confederation, republican motherhood, and government. This was the time in life, that we as America gained our independence from Britain. The American Revolution is what shaped our world to become what it is today.
There were many different religions that came to the Americas during its beginning. The majority of the different religions moved to separate parts of the colonies. Each religion came with its own set of morals and beliefs. The structure of the home, town, and church were not the same between religions, even those that were technically following the same belief system. These different religions in early American times, such as the Quakers and Puritans, formed diverse cultures and ways of live that were viewed during colonial times. Although the majority of the colonists considered themselves Christians, there was not religious unity amongst the colonies.
There were many diverse factors that precipitated the American Revolution. After the Enlightenment, there were colonists that believed they needed a new form of government. This new form of government would not have the power to have complete authority over their citizens, like what the British had over them. These colonists did not believe in being loyal to Britain, and supported the American Revolution. Most colonists however did not support the idea of branching away from the mother country of Great Britain, and went against the idea of the United States becoming its own country.
The Christian religious groups had a major influential role in the British colonies around the time of 1600 and 1776. They attempted to start the religion through the government and the town rules. They would make laws that would make everyone attend a house of worship and pay taxes that funded the salaries of ministers, eight of the thirteen British colonies of established churches and practices a different version of a non-Christian faith. The religion inspired both good and bad with many religious leaders. Many of the outpourings from this period are either supported or not supported at all by the enlightenment.
The American Revolution was a lot like the French revolution. The revolutionaries from America were fighting for freedom against their reigning Monarchs from Britain. The Americans (Like the French Revolutionaries and Enlightened Thinkers) were fighting for freedom against their oppressors, and like the French they didn’t use very good reason or tolerance in their fight. The French burned down an expensive building to fight wasteful spending, and the Americans poured tea into the harbor because tea was becoming too expensive. The American and the French revolutions had many similarities and differences. One similarity being is that they both wanted to escape the rule of their King. Second, they both started by an uprising of people against unfair taxation by the monarchy. The French peasants were not represented by the Parliament. It was mainly composed of middle and upper class people. Now, the American colonists were not represented in England because of their lack of presence. Both wanted to set up a Republic, which provided liberty and justice to all classes of citizens. Just like France, the American colonists were composed up mainly middle and lower class citizens. The enlightenment period enhanced art and revolutionized the themes and topics that relate to this area of study. The subjects and topics that used to be discussed in arts have now been altered and turned into political and economic issues.
