In the article, “American Jerk: Be Civil or I’ll Beat You to a Pulp," by Todd Schwartz, Schwartz discusses his belief that people can be self-centered and can act Very selfishly while pretending to be civil. He believes that our civilation has progressed to the point where we no longer care about anything at all. While I agree with a lot of Schwartz's statements and conclusions, I also disagree with many things He said. Schwartz explains how people can be self-centered and provides many convincing examples of this conclusion. I completely related to his statement that, “...Pick your poison: reality television, slather movies, video games, online porn, cell phones, automated answering systems, giant assault vehicles for trips to the grocery store, car stereos played at volumes easily heard on Jupiter, web-powered copyright infringement, people who will not shut their inane traps in movie theaters, and, lord help us, now even people who won’t shut their inane traps during live theater.” Many people are disrespectful and don't seem to know how to demonstrate consideration for others. Many of us can really be self-absorbed and self-centered, and I also believe that our cell phones as well as how we were raised have an impact on how people are acting now. Overall, technology has changed how many communicate. In many ways, technology has enabled us to act and connect with a multitude of people around the globe. I think people can do something about the usage of cellphones. For example, people can leave their phone behind at home when they go to work. They will see that they don’t really need their phone to survive. And as for the way we act, I think parents need to show their children how to act at a young age, so it doesn’t hurt them in the future. Flammang, writes about the importance of personal civility and its ability to shape a civil society. She argues that the civil manners are practiced around the table and do not lead to the dismissal of necessary conflict. Flammang discusses that not only is civility necessary, but conflict is the reason civility exists. Personal civility is the belief in how one should act, talk, or express their feelings.
In the article entitled, “Our Cell Phones Ourselves”, Christine Rosen describes how cell phones have changed the way we communicate. Rosen tells the readers the main purpose for cell phone use in the past, versus present day. Her purpose is to make society aware of how cell phones have influenced our lives in order to inspire change as to how we view our cell phones. Rosen directs her writing to everyone in the present day by describing the negative results of cell phone use and how it impacts our lives and those around us. Without a doubt, cell phones are going to be a part of our world, but it is the responsibility of every cell phone owner to exercise self control and understand that a cell phone is nothing more than a device.

The American government, who believes in capitalism, is a strong opponent of Communism. Their perception of Communism is negative; and this is often shown through different medias, such as television shows, movies, and literatures. One example is The Ugly American by William J. Lederer and Eugene Burdick. In The Ugly American, Lederer and Burdick portray Communism as a force of evil that is slowly spreading in undeveloped Asian countries like a virus, with many of the citizens of these Asian countries becoming Communists. As well, the authors depict many of their American characters as anti-communists who try different approaches to prevent the spread of it. Though the authors' views on Communism is a reflection of the American government, the question that emerges is whether this portrayal is accurate.

We have been allowing cell phones to impact our lives in negative ways. Our everyday life changes every day because of these cell phones and how we use them. I have noticed in everyone’s life, including mine, that it is hindering us socially and physically. My biggest concern is the negative impact it is having on our education and students allowing them to get in the way of their education. We need to get a hold on these cell phones before it gets any more out of hand, but I think it is too
Many will judge someone based on the clothes they wear or the way they style their hair. This is a selfish way of making themselves feel better. People tend to try to bring people that are higher than them to their level by breaking them down and insulting them. This is a selfish way to make them feel worthy, and they don’t think about how their words could affect the other person. People also want others to act and be a certain way, but they don’t think that they should have to act in that way. People go on and on about how they wish that others would be nicer or more helpful, yet they themselves are rude, inconsiderate, and could care less about other peoples problems.
