A minor or adolescent is required to meet a specific age qualification in order to reach or fulfill specific age limitations. Age restrictions range from age of consent, intoxication and movie permittance. The legal age to see specific restricted movies vary from each citizen. Films that are considered R-rated are assessable to seventeen year olds with adult supervision, and eighteen and older by oneself or accompanying a group. A common viewpoint is that young adolescents or teenagers under the age of seventeen should not be permitted to see content depicted in R-rated movies. Restricted movies contain graphic images that contain scenes such as intoxication of drugs or alcoholic beverages, sexual content, gore or violence, strong political …show more content…

Restricted or R-rated movies, are an omnipresent source of entertainment for adolescent and adults. Restricted movies are a source of entertainment and art as on par with Parental Guidance-13 (PG-13) and General (G-rated films). Teens exposed to content in R-rated movies create exposure to increase maturity. Young adolescents under the age of seventeen should be permitted to watch R-rated movies for the understanding that it is a form of entertainment and art. The legal age to be permitted to view Restricted films should be lowered to younger adolescents. Movies rated PG-13 are similar in context to a film that is Rated R. PG-13 movies often contain alcoholic content and or graphic scenes of violence. Films rated for teens thirteen and older [PG-13] are estimated to contain an equal amount of intoxicants as an R-rated film (Cin,Worth,Dalton, and Sargent 1931). Films meant for young adolescents contain a corresponding amount of alcoholic intoxicants in par with Restricted movies. Young adults are exposed to the same content produced in an R-rated film.
