The age exploration in Europe began in the 1400s. The rise of strong kingdoms, the desire for trade, improved navigation technology from Ptolemy and Al Idrisi like the astrolabe, compass, and better maps with longitude and latitude, and better ships like the caravel and naus led to a new era of exploration. After the Renaissance people knew the world was flat so they started to use the water more for sailing. The first country to send ships out was Portugal; in 1420, because they were at peace and had enough money they were the first to set out. They began mapping Africa’s coastline and trading with African Kingdoms. Prince Henry the Navigator of Portugal taught Sailors when he got too old and could no longer sail. For starters, you could easily get lost with the limited technology like what happened to Henry Hudson in New York. Sometimes a ship could be struck by a terrible wave that could potentially crush the ship against rocks, and leave all of the crew left for dead. On the ships there isn't a lot of room for food; eventually, sailors can run out of food and then starve to death along with the crew. Starvation of the crew usually leads to mutiny or overthrow of the captain because they were promised food yet there starving. Or caused by not eating food with a lot of vitamin C you could die of a disease called scurvy which was common for sailors to die from. It wasn’t unheard of that pirates would attack your ship, if they saw a ship they would raid it. You could also go into debt for the rest of your life by not getting how much gold you said you would.

Many positive outcomes came from exploring. After exploration there was a lot more knowledge of the world, Europeans started producing better more accurate maps of the world which made it easier for sailors to get to the new world and back without getting lost. The discovery of the new world led to more trade and new foods, the new foods were able to feed more people which led to a bigger population for not only Europeans. After exploration Europeans were able to spread ideas and technology much quicker than before. For the Natives, they were able to hunt buffalo much easier with European
