One of my favorite songs is titled “Against All Odds” by Tupac. The song was written in 1995. I was only one years old. Even though I was barley walking and talking when the song came out its one of my favorite songs because I can relate to the message Tupac was trying to get across. Like Tupac, I too have had some struggles in my life which is why I feel I had to fight against all odds. In this short essay I will detail how I have overcome adversity throughout my life. Some people may see me now and think that I had an easy road to get where I am today. However, as I stated in my introduction my life has been full of obstacles. As I think back on my life there are three specific things I had to overcome. The first thing that I had to overcome was having a speech impediment at the age of four years old. I remember kids laughing at me because I couldn’t pronounce words that started with the letter “S”. Because of this my mother put me in speech classes. I still remember the name of my teacher, Mrs. Bay. She helped me for two years. After working with her I went to kindergarten without any speech impediment made friends and start love going to school hanging with friends and being able to talk right without anyone laughing at me. Again, going to the college was my dream. I wanted to become a college basketball player at the University of Tennessee. Not only did not going to college hurt me, it also hurt my family. Outside of Steve Sanders, my uncle, I would have been the second person in my family to go to college. I still regret not going to college to this day. It felt like I gave up on everything even basketball. which is why I am enrolled in this program. I plan to overcome this last “Odd” by completing this program and immediately enrolling into Tri-C Community college making myself happy and also my family. I will major in physical therapy. Just thinking about this gets me excited about my future all over
