... a tedious process, but the change can have immense, positive effects for the future college student. The ACT and SAT that supposedly measure a student's learning potential through multiple-choice questions should be replaced by a test of a student's desire to learn determined through the analysis of essays, recommendation letters, and school or community involvement. This change can result in a more academically motivated freshman class. Standardized testing in its current form does not accurately measure most students' learning potential. It does not allow for diversity and creates a huge hurdle for many potential academic achievers. An adjustment to a diverse, open testing format of the ACT or SAT and a stress on the student's other academic accomplishments can accurately measure the student's desire to learn, therefore measuring the student's learning potential.
In recent years many schools have begun to put more emphasis on standardized test scores. Almost all college bound students now take entrance exams like the ACT or SAT. These tests supposedly indicate how "smart" a student is and how successful they would be in colle...

In today’s society, college students are often told that we need to focus on pursuing careers that offer financial security rather than pursuing a career the we love. In the graphic novel “Johnny Bunko: The Last Career Guide You’ll Ever Need”, author Daniel Pink challenges this idea. Rather than trying to pursue a career because it makes money, the author uses characters such as Johnny’s coach, Dianne to tell us otherwise, providing six elements that will ensure you great success.
However, the newly revised SAT will not encourage students to improve their reasoning abilities and aptitude for their college level of works. This is because the test is moving towards achieving, the results will only be showing what they learned throughout high school, and will not be proving their capabilities in handling college work in their first two years. The re...
We automatically focus on the large, round, green circle that creates a cluster. This large circle is encompassed by small, round circles that give the impression that each circle represents a chapter in a book. These chapters consist of sixteen jobs or careers that we can learn about. Some career choices are Business Management and Administration; Information Technology; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Human Services and Transportation, Distribution and Logistics just to name a few. () The amount of choices for obtaining an education in one’s chosen field of interest will draw many students in the Career and Technical Education program. This cluster of careers is the focal point of the infographic.
In this day of age, one of the most important requirements, one must have on a college application is a standardized test score. Whether it’s from the ACT or SAT, this score could give students the opportunity to get noticed by prestigious universities, helping them increase their chances of getting into any school that they aspire to go to. In fact, there is even more emphasis on such big exams like these nowadays because it is a state required test that is used in all colleges across the country. However, standardized testing is commonly misunderstood, and is used as an inaccurate representation of a student’s academic ability.

Parents often play a major role in their child’s process of career exploration. Norman E. Amundson and Kurt Penner developed the PICE strategy to help counselors guide students (usually age 14 to 18) in preliminary career exploration with the aid of parents. When used correctly, this strategy can help build a sense of support and cooperation between students and parents. This provides the students with a great resource as they continue exploring their career options. This strategy includes 5 stages and is intended for use in a single counseling session.
Two classes of computerized systems that provide information for career planning are computer-based career guidance systems (CCGS) and computer-based career information systems (CCIS) (Harris-Bowlsbey 1992; Mariani 1995-96).
