Electronic mail is rather a means of communication that is undergoing increasing progress around the world. E-mail messages can be sent across various sorts of networks, both locally and globally. Apart from the Internet there are thousands of local area networks and wide area networks that send millions more messages every day across diverse kinds of transmission cable. Electronic mail over the Internet, the world's greatest computer network, is experiencing exploding growth daily.

Conventionally, teachers often receive dozens of papers, assignments, and pieces of writing from their students each term.These pieces of paper frequently get ordered (or should I say disorganized) on desks, in brief cases, in filing cabinets, at home, in the office, in the classroom, and so on. The age-old hassle of shuffling, filing, and retrieving these papers is almost elradicated. With the click of a mouse modern e-mail software permits groupings of messages by student name, by date received, or by project name. Writing assignments received can be arranged electronically by any one of these classifications. These types of groupings make it simpler for the teacher to actually observe the process which their students are applying when writing. This process can be monitored and examined much more successfully and logically by the teacher who can also consider and organize student or groupwork more effortlessly and methodically. When learners get in contact with each other using e-mail, their public is likely to focus nearly on the mail itself and not so much on the form, grammar, spelling, mechanics, etc. A last , but not least, wothwhile feature of e-mail is that shy students have a forum for expressing themselves and asking questions.Sometimes, some students who do not like to communicate in a group are likely to do better with writing. Since students often produce more content electronically than with conventional pen-and-pencil practices, timid students often tend to reveal their opinions more overtly without fear. This can give students self-reliance and finally enhance their writing ability.

First she uses the National Center for Education Statistics information to provide a strong base of knowledge regarding the topic that is already available. The article from the National Center for Education Statistics includes a quote from a teacher stating “the use of acronyms and shorthand in text messages for students’ inability to spell and ultimately to write well” (pg. 2). She goes on to explain teacher’s viewpoints and their beliefs on the topic after seeing a decrease in writing abilities. There is a quote included by Naomi Baron, a professor at American University, in which states “so much of American society has become sloppy and laissez faire about the mechanics of writing” (pg.2). This quote provides evidence that everyone should be concerned about the effects because our society is facing the issues as well not only students. As she continues to provide a foundation for others ideas regarding the topic, she changes viewpoints to those who see the positives in texting. Cullington uses an author to elaborate on the positives that increased texting can have on individuals. David Crystal explains that students “sharpen their diplomatic skills . . . [because] it allows more time to formulate their thoughts and express them carefully” (pg.4). This is something that is important in today’s day and age where people want the short and sweet version, not something drawn out that can be hard to understand. In her background information regarding the positive aspects of texting, she uses emotions to connect with the reader when she discusses children who struggle with writing. The internet has taken the world so far in its short commercial life; the future of the internet provides limitless possibilities of a much different future. The internet was created to test new networking technologies developed to eventually aid the military. The Arpanet, advanced research projects agency network, became operational in 1968 after it was conceived by Leanard Roberts (Watrall, T101, 2/2). Ever since the Arpanet began in 1968, it has grown exponentially in the number of connected users. Traffic and host population became too big for the network to maintain, due to the killer application known as email created in 1972.
In the article, “Does Texting Affect Writing?”, the author Michaela Cullington conveys her speculation that texting does not correlate to how students write formal essays. At the beginning of the article Cullington introduces the term texting and the convenience texting brings. Later expressing her concern that the texting language “Textspeak” is actually affecting students writing; then contradicts these views by using primary and secondary sources (news articles, books, her own surveys and research). In addition, she uses an anecdote to tell of her own experience with texting and writing. Together with other evidences and research put together, she uncovers the debate between textspeak and formal writing. On the basis of her research, she concludes that the state of texting does not interfere with writing or writing abilities.
Along with using the World Wide Web for researching purposes, e-mail has become a very commonly used feature. Students and teachers can communicate outside of the classroom any time of day. In addition, this also opens up the idea of an online community center.

Penelope Trunk said, “the type of writing that students do--via IM, Twitter, Facebook, and so forth-- is actually great for building communication skills” (Trunk 2). The reason behind communication skills being built through social media is our generation is practicing with our reading, and writing constantly while on social media. “The fact that students today almost always write for an audience gives them a different sense of what constitutes good writing” (Thompson 2). Our generation has a diverse audience of people that “likes” what we post, making it tempting to come up with a status or post that is well written and appeals to the audience. The newest web based email service, which has gained more attention than most, is Gmail [1]from Google.com. Google currently hosts the most popular Internet search engine world wide. Google proposes to deploy a unique email service that will give users capability not available with other providers; most importantly 1GB of email storage space. Gmail will use Google’s sophisticated search technology to perform searches on a person’s email saved in their account. This searching feature allows a user to quickly locate and display relevant information from a previous email and not spend time scrolling through long lists of messages in email folders.
