The Holocaust was the systematic persecution and mass murder of six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its leader. The Holocaust took place from January 30, 1933, when Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany, to May 8, 1945. Adolf Hitler had many goals and intentions in creating the Holocaust during the time of World War II . Many of Hitler’s ideas began when writing his book, Mein Kampf, in prison, about his hatred for the Jewish race and how he wanted them entirely distinguished. Hitler believed that the Jewish race was the root of the problem for Germany and wanted to eliminate Germany’s problems by persecuting and eventually murdering Jews completely.

The work that they were forced to do was not normal jobs. They were forced to do harsh jobs that had to be done in the harsh weather at some point. Along with working long, hard hours, they Jews were not treated like human beings, rather they were treated like slaves. The concentration camps then became into a much more frightening nightmare; death camps. Murder operations began on December 8, 1941 and did not end until January 1945. The Jewish German were forced to undress, give up their belongings, and load into a van whose exhaust pipes were connected to the interior of the car. Then, the vans would begin driving to a burial site. By the time the vans arrived, no one survived. They also exterminated Jews by forcing them to strip their clothes, belongings, and families. It all began when Adolf Hitler became Germany’s dictator in 1933. Hitler praised the German population and seemed to ban all other competing races, specifically the Jewish population in Germany. Then those who were too young or too old to work were sent to the showers. Once the showers were tightly packed, the Nazi’s would turn on the water and drop in canisters of chemicals that would react with the water and release a deadly gas. Within minutes, everyone in the shower would be dead. The bodies would be hauled out and burned. Those who were not selected to die didn’t fair much better.
Adolf Hitler came into power of Germany in 1934. Wanting power, land and revenge, Hitler gets troops ready to attack. Hitler was a troop in WWI for Germany. Once the Germans lost the war, Hitler took that personally, and wanted revenge. After coming into power with his army of Nazis, Hitler is quick to blame Jewish people for all the harsh debt and corruption in Germany. The Germans believe him, causing them to hate Jewish people. While being forced to live in Auschwitz they endured many cruel and harsh punishments. The main form of punishment was the gas chambers. These chambers were cells that were made underground and were able to be sealed. Zyklon-B was the poison used to gas and kill the Jewish people. “It takes about 10 minutes to kill 2,000 to 3,000 people in the gas chamber.” (Saldinger p.57) After gassing they would then be extracted from the chamber and taken to the crematorium where the bodies would be disposed of. Sometimes it wasn’t even the guards who would dispose of the bodies, most of the time it was the prisoners who were forced to extract their own people from the chambers. This was just one of the many forms of punishment; there were many more and some were just as bad.
When we think of the Holocaust, we usually just think of Adolf Hitler, but there was much more to the story than what meets the eye. Hitler was born on April 20th, 1889 in Austria to his mother, Klara Hitler, and his father, Alois Hitler. According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Adolf was baptized a Catholic, even though he was born partially a Jew. His young life was difficult, always fighting with his father, and growing up in a middle class family. But, when going to jail for treason in 1924, his life got even harder. He was supposed to be in jail for five years, but ended up staying only for nine months. While spending his nine months in jail, he wrrote a book called Mein Kampf. Adolf Hitler's book, called Mein Kampf, translates to My Struggles. His book was written about his struggles, and what his plan was to do. Hitler's book also got him out of jail, beginning his rise to power.

Hitler and his Nazis established a large number of labor and death camps throughout Nazi occupied countries. A holocaust, by definition, is a mass human slaughter caused by fire. These events Hitler authorized were categorized as a holocaust because after the prisoners in the camps died, or, if they were at a labor camp, close enough to death that they were no longer of any use to the Nazi guards stationed at the camp they were at, the guards would burn the bodies in mass. The purpose, center and essence of the Holocaust lies within one man, Adolf Hitler.
