Addiction is a prevalent word used on a daily basis. It is unclear whether people understand what addiction is and whether addiction is a psychological condition or not. The paper focuses on the meaning of the term addiction, the history of addiction and the legacy of the pioneers of the term. The common types of addiction in children are the behavioral activities such as television programs, video games, other games as may be defined by the locality of a child and food. The adults are however faced with addictions of different types ranging from the drug and substance addictions to other internet related addictions such as pornography. Besides, adults are exposed to many factors which can cause addiction such as peer pressure and traumatic events. The treatment of the children and adult addicts are also quite different. Assuming both a child and an adult is addicted to drugs, the child would be handled by a neuropsychologist within a fortnight while the adult may stay at the hospital for up to two or more moths. The reason for the difference in the treatment method is that the part of the brain in children has strong neurons which can be easily corrected and the addiction eliminated.
