Heroism

When you envision a hero do you think of a superhero or a real life person? There are many

different types of figures that can be considered heroic. These heroes can be your every day run

of the mill person or they can be a character in a movie or even an animal. There have been many tragedies that have taken place where communities have come together to help out our fellow

neighbors and friends who are in need. Selfless acts of heroism are rare and often life altering but are the undeniably the most admired.

Or helping a woman retrieve her kitten from a tree

can be heroic. A persons actions may be construed as heroic just by them going out of their way

to help someone who is in need of help. The acts of heroism that have been done do not need to

be measured on a scale to prove that they are heroic as the acts themselves prove that they are.

With all the acts of heroism that go un-noticed daily that does not mean that they do not

happen or are not as significant as other acts. It means that they have not been thrown into the

limelight of day time television. Nurses and doctors save peoples’ lives every day but because

they are doing their job they often go un-noticed by the public. Firefighters and Police officers

are frequently in the media spotlight so their heroic acts are displayed on the nightly news. Your

average farmer who saved the woman that ran her car into the ditch is less likely to get on local

news media for his behavior but he still showed an act of heroism. The search and rescue
