Active Aging Today (AAT) began over forty years ago, as a small group of volunteers who took a special interest in the rights of people of sixty-five years of age (Straver 2017). As the business grew, AAT secured numerous grants and now has over forty-five paid employees (Straver 2017). As with any growing business, problems arose within AAT, preventing company strategies from being met. The company’s CEO, Sally, realised that she could not save the company on her own, so Alex was hired as an Administration Manager (Straver 2017). Alex quickly noticed that there were not many organisational systems put in place and those that were, he found, were out of date (Straver 2017). To keep the company current, Alex attempted to implement modern systems, …show more content…
It provides the employees with the training and education that will help them learn and update their skills that are required for the job (Clegg et al. 2016, p. 171). Training and development improves the efficiency of the staff, which will increase their production, and has a positive impact on the organization (Umamaheswari & Krishnan 2016). AAT has employed numerous staff members that at the time of the selection process, may have shown glimpses of hope, but have not responded to efforts made by the company to develop their skills (Straver 2017). Robert, the finance worker at AAT, has a hard time showing and explaining what exactly he is doing for the company (Straver 2017). Considering all the time that he has spent with the company, those skills should be developed by now and Robert should be able to explain to other employees what he is doing and how to do it. Likewise, Julia has had numerous meetings with Alex to help develop her basic computer and personal skills, but has not shown significant improvement (Straver …show more content…
2016, p. 333). According to Darla Rothman and Bernice McCarthy (2012), the four styles of learning that complete the learning cycle are action, thinking, reflecting and feeling. Any combination of the four create your own personal learning style (Rothman & McCarthy 2012). Employees at AAT are displaying signs of struggling with the learning styles that the company is using. Julia has met numerous times with Alex to improve her mental state and skill set and has shown little progress (Straver 2017). Likewise, Robert, the finance manager, is unable to explain accurately what he is doing with the finances to other employees (Straver
Ageing is a natural process, which presents a unique challenge for all sections of the society. With gradual improvement in health-care delivery services, people in the UK are living longer, but not necessarily healthier lives. As a result, the number of people who require care in their old age is increasing dramatically. There are currently three million people over 80, and this number is expected to almost double by 2030. There are also an increasing number of elderly people living on their own, increasing the demand for specific elderly care.
This method also empowered the employees giving them an opportunity to increase their skill levels and an opportuni...
Learning is defined as a permanent change in attitude or behaviour that occurs as a result of repeated experience (Sims & Sims, 1995). Understanding one’s learning style has many advantages as it can help one to identify the learning method or activities that can help to optimise the learning experience. It has been suggested that the importance of one’s learning style has been identified through studies and research on how one can maximise the potential for success and further learning development (Honey & Mumford, 2006). Learning styles are unique to each individual and are developed in childhood (Chase, 2001). We all have different personalities; therefore we all have preferred learning styles that suit us best. The way one learns depends on preference. Some learn by observing, listening and imitating others and draw conclusions from their experience. There are several factors that affect our learning style; for example, background, culture, religion and environment can have a major influence on one’s learning.
Learning is a process that individuals face every day, whether it is in classroom, at work, or surfing the Internet, but each person has a particular style in which they prefer to accomplish this learning. An individual’s learning style is the manner in which that person finds learning to be the easiest for them, and while many individuals have a primary style, everyone uses all the learning styles in various combinations throughout their day and life.
Active ageing does not stop when elderly people retire as they can remain active through their families, peers and communities. Active ageing aims allows elderly people to realise and bring awareness to their own psychological, physical and mental well-being as the goal active ageing is the autonomy and independence of elderly people (Alexandre, Cordeiro, & Ramos, 2009).
Train employees for new skills. Today, every company does not specialize for one area of business or producing one product. The company should produce multiple products or change to other products. For example; Instead, AT&D employees produce auto parts, they can built another things such as a computer hardware, electronic devices, solar, furniture, airplanes, cellphones and other high- tech tools. To do these jobs, they need to have a training. The AT&D should take some time off to provide a training to AT&D employees. AT & D also provided some funding to training the
Anderson (2011) suggests that a dual learning style has an important role in the development of skills. Using learning styles allows the student to understand how they work best and what their preferred learning style is. However learning style theories have been criticised extensively by many, there are many educational psychologists who believe that there is little evidence for efficacy of most learning styles models. According to Greenfield (2007) the practice is “nonsense” from a neuroscientist point of view. Furthermore Henry (2007) believes “Humans have evolved to build a picture of the world through our senses working in unison, exploiting the immense interconnectivity that exists in the brain” (Henry, 2007).The foundation of being a good mentor is building a good working relationship with the student (Walsh, 2014). The student – mentor relationship is crucial to the students learning throughout the placement (Wilkes, 2006). All mentors when working with students must have effective professional and inter-professional working relationships which will enable and enhance to support the learning for students. Part of the skills required maintaining the relationship with students and the multi professional team include; being organised, prioritising, providing ongoing support and constructive feedback and being able to liaise with other

“A learning style is a way of learning and refers to the way that you learn new information” (2). Most people have one preferred learning style and perform to a lesser standard when learning in a different style than what they’re used to. Nowadays, children are told to take a quiz in school to determine what their preferred learning style is, but after a few years, not many of these children remember what their preferred learning style is, or even if they do, they don’t apply it to their learning.
Learning style models differ depending on the theorist that has created them, even though practically all of them contain an accentuation on processing and personality. The learning styles model created by Harvey Silver, Richard Strong, and Matthew Perini versus the Dunn and Dunn learning styles model, is one example of how their is a wide range of theories that can appreciated. These two models diverge because while Silver’s model focuses on the four main types of learner styles, the Dunn and Dunn model explores the 21 elements that affect how a human being learns. The Dunn and Dunn model classifies these 21 elements into five categories: emotional, environmental, sociological, psychological and physiological variables. Silver’s model instead explores the strengths of each of the four types of learners. Although these models contain differences, they both put an emphasis on the relevance of the process and approaches to learning, while Gardner does not eminently consider either ideas within his theory.
It gives rise to individual creativity within acceptable limits of trial and error. Such a development of the skills and talents of employees also evolves a great degree of self-confidence. These employees become invaluable assets of the organization as they are well versed with the organizational goals, both short term and long term.
Learning is the main result of training. The staffs learn knowledge, do best practices, lessons learned, share experiences and draw new insights to improve performance by training. In addition, training help organization reduce overall cost during organization operation by providing skills for the organization (Miri, 2014). Training also help staffs to work effectively on the current job and accumulate experience to be qualified a high level position (Amin & Saeed, 2013). In fact, employees’ performance are important for organizations growing to stay competitive advantage among competitors. Organizations pay more attention to employees’ training and finance much on that. According to a survey by America Society for Training and Development, organizations are spending large amount on employee effective training that more than $126 billion each year (Jehanzeb & Bashir,

Thought out our lives, we are faced with many different learning experiences. Some of these experiences have made a better impact than others. This can be attributed to everyone’s different multiple intelligences or learning styles. A persons learning style is the method though which they gain information about their environment. As a teacher, it is our responsibility to know these styles, so we can reach each of our students and use all of the necessary methods.
