The first four weeks of CR510 have prompted this student to reflect on her years of teaching in the public school setting. Having experienced many similar complexities to the ones in the text, this student is sympathetic to the challenges facing those in the education system and is eager to find opportunities to offer a better solution for all involved. CR510 has strengthened this student's belief that a third party neutral can provide valuable benefits to educational systems at all levels.
Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. During this summer semester, I was able to grow as a writer, and gain a more positive attitude toward how I write and a better feel for writing in college. Writing a paper is a process in which there are many different stages. In high school I would never write outlines or any sort of pre planning work. Other struggles I encountered in my writing were my theses, and framing quotes.
On the 1st of November 2013, I performed my first simulation on the module, Foundation Skills for Nursing. This simulation was on checking for vital signs in patients particularly, measuring the blood pressure (BP) which is the force of blood vessels against the walls of the vessels (Marieb and Hoehn, 2010). We also measured the temperature, pulse and respiratory (TPR) rates of a patient. This simulation’s objective was to engage us in practising some basic observation techniques taken on patients in and out of hospitals and to familiarise us on some of the tasks we will be performing when in practise. I will be applying the “What”, “So what”, and “Now what” model of reflection in nursing by Driscoll (2000).
Throughout this semester I have written several essays and journals using techniques both important and unfamiliar to me. This class helped me use these techniques and steps that are involved in creating and formalizing an essay. The writing process of an essay includes information gathering, creating ideas, and writing it on paper to create a cohesive and organized paper. In complete certainty I can say I lack many of the skills necessary to create such a paper, but during this course I have learned some writing methods which I believe have improved my essays. The essays and journals in this portfolio reveal both my strengths and weaknesses in my writing and how I have both continued to make the same errors and improved in other areas.
This paper aims to highlight an incident in theatre where environmental pressure has the tendency to lead to human error thereby compromising the patient’s safety. To reflect and critically analyse the situation, human factors, theories, guidelines and national policies that govern a theatre environment so as to improve the practice, raise awareness and prevent adverse event thereby improving patient safety in theatres.

Up until this year, before taking the class intermediate composition, I thought I was a terrible writer. I was right. Writing isn’t something that I enjoy doing, nor am I good at. Writing is difficult for me because I’m not very good at explaining things in a professional manner, that can be easily well written. While writing you are expected to make little to no mistakes, which is not something I’m great at. I am so much better at explaining things with verbal words rather than written words. Before I started this class I never knew what sociology was. I thought I knew, but I actually didn’t. I thought it was some boring study about the society that we live in, but I was proven wrong by this course. Through many different concepts taught I have been able to understand what sociology really is, and how to apply it to my daily life. There were many topics that we talked about in class that I can apply to my life be it school, work, home. Some of the many topics we talked about that really spoke to me were sexuality, race, and gender.

My weaknesses in writing the lesson plans was analyzing the lesson plans and describing the teaching methods utilized, and identifying the type of assessment, either formative or summative, for each lesson. I feel these were weaknesses because these were areas of the lessons that I had to be a little more reflective over to determine the teaching methods being used, and how I was assessing the students during the lesson.
