Online resources have become extremely remarkable for college students because they can easily have access to these sources without difficulty. However, some of these websites and resources can be inappropriate, for academic studies require reliable resources in order to get reasonable and accurate data. One of these inappropriate websites is Wikipedia because people cannot trust information, essays, and articles that were written by unknown authors. For academic writing, students must have accurate information about authors and their studies in order to use those articles. They cannot provide an acceptable academic paper if they use non-academic recourses such as Wikipedia and other blogs on the Internet. Even though some think that college students can use Wikipedia as an accurate resource, I believe that they should use other websites and resources that are more accurate and trustworthy than …show more content…
Even though some information from Wikipedia looks reasonable and accurate at the first glance, most of these details are not creditable and lack proofs and citations, too. Students must be careful about what they read in these articles because they may have wrong ideas due to an absence of credibility. According to “Wikipedia: Not a Credible Source, but a Jumping Off Point for Research,” information that is available on Wikipedia is not a creditable source. This has explained whether people can use Wikipedia for creditable information or not, and it deduced that it is difficult to cite from this website due to several reasons that make the information questionable. Although writers may have knowledge about what they write about these topics, there is a risk of unclear explanations of data and the use of their own perspectives as non-scientific proofs. Overall, students cannot guarantee the creditability of the information in this

In the play Doubt, by John Patrick Shanly, Sister Aloysius is treating Father Flynn unfairly. She treats him unfairly by forcing him to request the transfer without proving if Father Flynn is guilty or not and also makes him resign by lying about his past.
Like Gladwell, Nicholas Carr believes the internet has negative effects. In his article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid”, Carr attempts to show as the internet becomes our primary source of information, it diminishes the ability to read books and extensive research. Carr goes on to give a very well researched account of how text on the internet is designed make browsing fast and profitable. He describes how the design for skimming affects our thinking skills and attention spans. He wraps up his argument by describing what we are losing in the shift toward using the internet as our main information source. Carr suggests the learning process that occurs in extensive research and through reading is lost. While the learning process can be beneficial to scholars and intellectuals, not everyone has the capability to follow through with it. The internet offers an education that anyone can have access to and understand. Also if Carr believes the learning process is better, this option is always available for people who want to learn according to this scholarly principal. However, for the rest of the population the quick and easy access has allowed the average population to become more educated, and to expose themselves to aspects of academia that previously is reserved for
The best thing about Wikipedia is that it concisely provides topic wise systematic information on every topic for ‘short and quick reference’ of the summary on our search topic, a distinguishable and easy to note introduction. We also credit it for providing information in a very systematic and orderly manner and is quite too detailed in providing information and pictures on an article. Wikipedia is a good source for starting with basic information as it gives a summary in the beginning that almost gives the reader an approximate knowledge of what he is reading.
The reason why Wikipedia is so unreliable there are several dimensions of information quality: accuracy, completeness, currency, comprehensibility, and so on (cf. Fox, Levitin & Redman, 1994). The information suggested that the Wikipedia fails on several of these dimensions. However, people that acquire knowledge from Wikipedia are not as comprehensible and complete as we might expect an encyclopedia to be. There are three reasons to think that significant amount of information on Wikipedia might be inaccurate, first, anyone can contribute to Wikipedia, and many of these contributors will not have much expertise in what they write about.
Steven Pinker states that “search engines lower our intelligence, encouraging us to skim on the surface of knowledge …” (1). Many students are not reading their assigned books anymore. Sparknotes and other web sites such as Shmoop have provided students with resources which are not useful. Students’ skim through these sites to read books. Most of the websites gives students’ plot summaries which are from another person’s take on that book .This damages the student 's’ chances of actually reading and understanding a book and having their own opinion .The more we run to search engines for answers the less we shall learn . Technology has taken the place of many students’ brains which causes them to think they are dumb. This leads to the need of searching for answers online at all
Modern media is based on the idea of having information at ones fingertips. With advances in technology and the growth of the internet, people from all around the world can find information in an instant and use it in their day to day lives. With Facebook, twitter, Instagram connecting people all across the globe instantly, why shouldn’t Wikipedia which grants its user immediate information to be used as a source in academics? Another reason why Wikipedia can be used as a valid solid references from academic journals and educational websites, which can be used to help further study.

Learning this made me realize how hard of workings people in this occupation are. From my works cited page, I learned that the websites most be italicized and to always add the dates. Finally, I learned that whenever someone is working on a paper, procrastination is never a good thing
As one of the first places people turn to for information, Wikipedia is lacking articles about topics ranging from indigenous peoples to black history. Volunteer editors, primarily males in high-income countries with access to high speed Internet connections, create pages about people and events that are familiar to them, leaving gaps in coverage. To fill in the gaps, the Wikipedia foundation sponsors edit-a-thons; this past October was the Indigenous Peoples' Day edit-a-thon. During the San Diego, California event, volunteers from the United States, Canada and Mexico created pages about notable Native Americans, tribes and Indigenous historical figures to expand Wikipedia's coverage of disenfranchised peoples.
The purpose of the assignment is to compare and contrast the source of research material available to a learner. We were first assigned to find a source from the Internet, and the second assignment was to find another source from the periodicals in the USCA library. This comparison will help each individual to determine the type of reading that benefits him or her the most. From these two sources, I learned a great deal of information about the different influences and ways that people learn. I recognize and agree that people can learn in different ways. I believe that as a person growing up in a technologically advanced world, that the current generation is more comfortable using information available from the Internet.
Now that we are living in an ever changing world, technology is viewed as the most resourceful tool in keeping up with the pace. Without the use of technology, communication would be limited to using mail for delivery and encyclopedias for research. Although technology has improved the way we communicate and find information for research, the information is not always valid. Unfortunately, for those of us who use the internet for shopping, research, or reading articles of personal interest the information is not treated the same as a your magazine or book. While such literature is reviewed by an editorial staff, internet literature or information can be published by anyone. In order to reap the full benefit of having the use of technology for any purpose, there are five basic criteria’s one must keep in mind as an evaluating tool for deciding whether or not the particular website is a reliable source for information.
As I read through the different web sites and links provided by my searches, I carefully analyzed each one. I compared my research to Rothenberg’s article. I disagree when he says that the Web is an easy way to write a paper, that information on the Internet is out of date, and that Web research leads to a student using less thought and logic. I have come to realize the wonderful contribution the web has made to students’ research papers.
According to Swain (20100, academic user community (students and academic staff) is encouraged 'to trust in electronic resources with a presumption that, the wealth of information available in electronic formats can utterly accomplish their scholarly needs as a better substitute to traditional print services. Moreover students can have direct access to electronic information with consistency and guaranty of equity access. Besides, students can get certain advantages in accessing electronic information like, quick browsing, compound access, retrieval speed, sharing, print and downloading, comprehensive information coverage, and more so"
Using technology within a curriculum, gives students, many choices that they need to decide on like how to generate, obtain, manipulate, and to also display information. Writing this research paper is an excellent example of how all these criteria are met. One must generate information from external sources, manipulate the data with multiple supporting examples, and put everything together into a well suited essay. Students learn a lot by processing the information independently with their own mindset creativity and thinking out of the box. As always, there are some students that decide to make the wrong choices that set the student off track. Many of these distractions come from various social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, and other
