Philosophy refers to the study of reality, discipline, knowledge, reasoning and existence. Plato’s cave allegory has thought us to not be ignorant, and to accept reality other than what we could only perceive using our senses. As written in ‘Allegory of the Cave’, Plato has expressed that humans are like prisoners, living in a dark cave ever since they were born and are not able to differentiate which is reality. We could learn that reality is not what we could perceive solely using our senses, but through logical reasoning. Humans tend to also believe reality as something “everyone knows” and to ignore which does not involve our senses despite having logical reasoning. Of the 4 noble truths, ‘Origins of suffering is attachment’ is which I find to be most meaningful for young people in Malaysia today because youths now have many desires that some of which should be evaded.
Being attached to these desires have led many youths today to suffer mentally and physically, causing many of them to willingly sacrifice their time and energy like working extra shifts or getting an extra job solely to earn extra wages in order for them to attain something they desire. If serious, having these cravings would gradually lead them to suffer from sickness. For instance, feeling exhausted mentally and physically due to the extra work they would have to perform, could make them prone to health issues since they are lack of nutrients in their diet. Despite being acknowledged the proneness to health issues, youths are still willing to encounter these sufferings, in order for them to save up money to achieve their goal. The reason youths today have higher demands are also due to the competitive world now. If a person has failed to attain something desired, he or she would feel embarrassed which could also lead them to suffer mentally, with the feeling of being looked

Socrates tells of prisoners in an underground cave who are made to look upon the front wall of the cave. The pursuit of goodness and of the truth, then, improves the soul, as the soul desires to be elevated to a higher state of knowledge and morality.
