When it comes to a new innovation or a new invention that is released to the public, it is the innovator or inventor’s job to convince the consumer to buy it. In his highly profound and fervent essay excerpt “Accepting or Rejecting Innovation” Jared Diamond delineates how there are three factors that may cause society to accept or reject an innovation or invention. One factor is if people would buy the object, will it give that person social value or prestige over other people. Another factor is how if the existing technology works for us vs the old technology to see if there is monetary gain or lost. A final factor, is it compatible with vested interest. In other words, does it appeal to the public to use the innovation or invention to change their old ways and adopting to learn a new one. People would follow the new trends that is going around at the time that is made by a popular company. For instance, Apple and Samsung are companies that have had huge success over time and are most notably for their phones. Nowadays people have either Samsung or Apple phones because of the prestige of the products and inventions make them more appealing to the public. If a person had to choose between a LG smartphone that costs around $400.00 or a Apple Iphone 7 that costs around $700.00. Most likely people would tend to go for the Iphone because to them, the LG phone does not hold up any social value to them, even though it does the same thing. Many people would rather spend more money on a phone like the Iphone,instead of buying a phone like the LG phone that is inexpensive and could do the same thing or who knows even
