Leadership is essential to the success of every academic leader and requires a range of skills, knowledge, and personal qualities in order to develop into a good leader. Educational researchers are constantly looking for variables that have influenced the development of good academic leaders. For example; positive college climate, positive attitude, spiritual references, and university culture; however, these aspects are hard to pinpoint since academic leadership is an anomaly (Pourrajab, & Ghani, 2016). Otherwise, the position of the leader will become unnecessary. It is important for leaders to find their own personal leadership style and use their skills to mentor and supervise their workforces. In order to lead successfully, the person has to develop another dimension of leadership which consist of their own personal goals, emotions, mindsets, and motivations. Personal leadership is the ability to pinpoint a direct set of goals, the direction that needs to be taken to reach those goals, and then the action needed to fulfil them. Knowing what one wants out of life and figuring out what success means to them, articulating their goals, and knowing what those goals are part of their purpose for being alive, is the essence of personal leadership (Workman, & Cleveland-Innes, 2012). The following paper will shine a light on the personal leadership style of Fiscal Analyst II at Francis Marion University, and student at DeVry University, Keller Graduate School of Management Brittney Vereen.
