The Importance of Volunteering Throughout College
Introduction
Attention-Getter:
Every college student is involved in at least 7 different clubs, 5 on-campus jobs, s6 intramurals, and taking 40 to 50 credits per semester...OK, so maybe that’s not completely accurate, but that’s definitely what it feels like being a third-year college student. In reality, according to an article in GoodCall news by Terri Williams, she cites a study done by the U.S. Census Bureau, which shows that the average full time college student only spends 3.3 hours performing these activities. So where do college students spend most of their time then? A study done by Dr. James Robert at Baylor University, concludes that most college students spend about 8.7 hours

Finally, Volunteering betters the community as a whole.
There are many methods of volunteering that can help college students make sense of the community in which they live in.
An example of volunteering on campus can be found at COD itself. COD offers a program called “People Educating People.” It is essentially a program in which students offer to tutor other students in various subjects.
According to David Lisman, author of “Toward a Civil Society : Civic Literacy and Service Learning,” “Volunteerism aids the community as it increases access to opportunities and services. It leads to better delivery of services, greater inclusion and participation in development (56).
Thus, a community is essentially a group of people living in the same place, working together, to continuously achieve better. In the case for college students, the campus, is considered to be a community. To continue building on this notion of a community, research shows the essentialness of volunteering.

First, I argued that volunteering helps students boost their resume. Volunteering shows employers that the student is well-rounded and altruistic; the skills that the student learns in volunteering can be used in their future careers. Secondly, I discussed the benefits that volunteering has on one’s body and mind, both physically and mentally. Students who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer. Finally, I proved how volunteering betters the community as a whole. Being at college is a community in itself, therefore, volunteering through the programs that your individual college offers is a great way to become
volunteering is a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. In this report i will talk about the different types of volunteering in the:
Universities have recently started allowing students to volunteer for nonprofit groups and as a payment or reward they can receive lower college expenses or even free college. This is letting the students decide if they want to work for their education and walk out without or little debt. By doing this we are giving students a learning experience on how you can earn what you want rather than letting them pay their way through college. Colleges that have tried this solution have noticed a great amount of success (Laboissiere). Students are taking the opportunity serious and tend to take their education more serious, since they already “worked” for
Taking time to volunteer at the many nonprofit organizations, homeless shelters, advocacy centers, philanthropic fundraisers, local schools and child care facilities in the inner city is not always at the forefront of young people’s minds while navigating through their college experiences. But, with a little push from student organizations, local nonprofits and passionate individuals, volunteerism and community change can start to take a front seat and become not just an opportunity, but also a priority in the lives of young people.
Certain organizations have a different look on what volunteering means. For some that is building houses for the homeless, food banks, job hiring, volunteering at your local church, or clothing donation
Community service is a voluntary, unpaid act of kindness that an individual perform to benefit and help others who are in need. It is important for individuals to do community services. It is not only about helping the community but, also making a difference in someone’s life. It can help a person grow and build connections mentally, physically, and emotionally. Mentally, a person who does community service is able to change their perspective of the world and appreciate the things they have. Physically, it can help a person be more motivated and explore what is going on in their community. Emotionally, it can help a person feel kindness therefore, it can also help an individual interact with others, build a relationship, and further their communication. Participating in community service can help a person become more active and involved in their community, it can also build your work related skills and make you gain experience to network with future employers and companies. Community Service helps an
Time constraints made it difficult, but I found time at least once a week to volunteer and I’m glad I did. For this paper, I would like to give an overview of what I learned and observed while volunteering. Then, I will be applying an analysis of course material to what I observed. Context I chose to volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital in
Volunteering in your local community is great way to give back and set a positive example at the same time. Let’s take a look at some of the problems in our community that affect many people.
There are so many reasons to volunteer in service learning Giving back to your community is valuable and helpful in itself, but helping others also offers many benefits to you and them you might never know. For example, it can help you learn a lot about yourself
Too many people in this day and age have fallen into the habitual criticism that society should be immensely improved but do not realize that they are a part of the fundamental change needed to resolve this problem. The word “community” can be defined as a number of people working together towards a collaborative objective. In order for a community to prosper, people must present effort by giving back to the community. Giving back to the community should not be seen as a task that will offer monetary gain, but as one that would benefit the community as a whole. I believe that giving back to the community in which I live in is of the upmost importance as a student, but also as a member of society.
American citizens strive to find new and innovative ways to conquer social issues plaguing their nation hence, creating volunteering as a supplement to donating money. Volunteering creates a passionate society that values hard work and instills a sense of belonging in their community. Volunteering rates continue to rise as more and more citizens start to realize the self-rewarding benefits that come with job. According to the 2014 World Giving Index, the United States placed in the top five across the globe for most time spent volunteering (“World Giving Index”). This demonstrates how citizens of the U.S. really take pride into whatever job or project they get themselves involved with.
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
Many students are barely even passing the regular school curriculum, and opponents believe that adding the additional load of mandatory service hours will discourage teens from even wanting to graduate. Also, mandatory service is usually assigned by a court as punishment to delinquents. “In a small number of cases, community service is required by the court system as restitution for delinquent offenses” (Planty and Bozick, 2006). Contrary to this opposing view, helping others is the best feeling that one could ever have. What is a volunteer program?
There are many ways to volunteer at the local level. Citizens can coach youth sports teams, ring the Salvation Army bell, join the fire department or a first responder group, set up a neighborhood watch to protect children, or deliver meals to the elderly, just to ...
