All abduction scenarios are not the same, however, the experiences of those who claim to be abducted by aliens are somewhat similar to each other. Each case has enough in common so that a general idea as to what happens when one gets abducted is formed. These accounts usually start with the presence of a bright light and strange beings (Newman and Baumeister). The abductee is usually paralyzed at this point and is taken onto the alien’s craft by force (Newman and Baumeister). Most claim that all different of kinds tests were performed on them while on they were on craft (Newman and Baumeister). Most abductees explain that somehow, the aliens were able to wipe out their memory of what exactly happened when they were on the craft (Orne). According to Jacobs, people first started to report alien abductions in the early 1900’s. In Florida, a Boys Scoutmaster, Sonny Desvergers, asserted that he saw a ball of light coming from a flying saucer and then lost conscious (Jacobs). He woke up 45 minutes later in a different place from where he was before (Jacobs). At the time, his case was judged to be a hoax (Jacobs). The only thing that investigators couldn’t seem to figure out was how Desvergers was able to burn the roots of the grass where he was “abducted,” but not the top of the grass (Jacobs). The abduction case of Barney and Betty Hill is an eminent one (Jacobs). They claimed that aliens abducted them from their car into a UFO, and took skin, hair and nail samples (Barbeito). When they came back, they couldn’t really remember what happened to them (Jacobs). They were missing 2 hours of time as they were on a long drive home (Barbeito). They went to see a psychiatrist and hypnotist who helped the couple retrieve their mem... ... middle of paper ... ...’s about a war between the human race and aliens (referred to as “buggers”). There are tons of movies about alien life as well. An example of a movie is, The Day the Earth Stood Still (Andersen). Researchers have found a few different theories that can explain some aspects of people claiming to experience alien abductions, but they have not been able to account for every abduction case (Pelletier and Patry). So far, there has not been a theory that was able to perfectly decode the mystery of alien abductions (Pelletier and Patry). All of the theories of why “abductees” claim to be abducted by aliens are possible, however, they require further research and examination. The concept of extraterrestrials has affected many aspects of society. Relying on just what the “abductees” say as true evidence is an important decision that can change the universe as we know it.
