The Mississippi State University Robert Holland Faculty Senate completed the revision process of AOP 13.24 annual faculty review process Friday afternoon. Cody Coyne, chair of charter and bylaws, reviewed the charter and bylaws’ committee revisions to AOP 13.24. “In respect to this AOP, it is an important AOP because it effects everyone in here, and every year it effects you because it is related to annual faculty reviews,” Coyne said. Revision four was the primary revision approved by the charter and bylaws committee. This revision updated the alteration process of the standards that faculty members are evaluated and revised how the approval for these alterations …show more content…
Faculty Senate President Brent Fountain updated faculty on the implementation of the blue bag program initiated by the sustainability department at MSU. All office trash cans now have blue trash bags and will be used for disposing of recyclable material only and non-recyclable materials will be disposed of in communal trash cans. “The idea is that we should get up and carry our waste to a common area trash can and then, paper and other recyclable products will go into that blue bag,” Fountain said. “Custodial does separate out recyclables from non-recyclables so this will alleviate their work.” Fountain is still communicating with the MSU sustainability department to clarify the logistics around the new trash can system since certain departments have had issues accessing a communal trash can for non-recyclables. To alleviate this problem in the future, building assessments are being conducted to determine which buildings need more trash receptacles and the new trash receptacles installed will have a side-by-side recycling bin and non-recycling
The GatesburgGoGreen Initiative is a bad idea and may cost tax payers more money if not done correctly. Adding an extra bin for recyclables will add more confusion on what goes where. Like its said in the No Recycling Laws for Gatesburg "Coffee grounds go in the green bin, but what about a plastic container of yogurt that has gone out of date?" Not only will this extra bin cause confusion, but also has some privacy issues.

I remember my first semester here at the University and the dark halls of the Bates House Residence Hall. Many a party was concluded with an idea for what to do with the endless piles of cans that had congregated on the floor. One idea, I remember, was to wall someone into his room and another was to see how many we could stand on end without toppling. But, we usually just ended up throwing them in the trashcans in our refuse room. Sometimes out of the five trashcans in the room set aside for trash disposal, three or four would be completely filled with hundreds of cans of various beverages. Upon further contemplation, I can also remember the small, blue bucket that was thrown haphazardly on my bed that first day. Even though it was quite clear that this basket was for the purpose of recycling, because of the triple arrow symbol that was so prominently placed on the front, I perceived it as a great trash can, since I had forgotten to bring one. Over the course of that semester it is hard to say just how many cans I threw out or saw inadvertently strewn around the parking lot like a million glittering coins in the afternoon sunshine. However, one thing I can say is that with the proper methods the University could inspire students like me to help keep clean the environment as well as make the money back that is needed to keep the project successful. The University should reconsider the methods by which its current recycling program can be improved. With the proper improvements the University can increase student awareness about the problems with pollution, increase the amount of income that is reimbursed through the system, and keep its impact on the overall environment...
The paper compartment on the three compartment bin distributed across campus and boxes and plastic recycling bins in some offices are used to collect waste paper. The janitorial staff go round routinely to collect and store the paper in 95-gallon recycling bins. The paper is later picked up by the Fredericton Solid Waste Commission to be recycled.
Lots of people consider recycling to be kind of a no-brainer, something we all should do. It’s good for the environment, it re-uses materials rather than creates new ones, it reduces landfills -- the list goes on and on. But one major benefit that people often overlook is the impact recycling programs can have on a community.
Recycling is important in the effort to preserve our environment for future generations. We are running out of locations to put landfills. Recycling is a simple and effective way to reduce the amount of waste stored in landfills, yet many people do not know how easy it can be. For example, whenever I go to Shoprite® and I b...
