ACL Injury Case Study

Classified injury to the ACL occurs by: Hyper extension: Hyper extension results in tightening of the posterior lateral bundle, which can lead to isolated posterior lateral bundle injury and may progress to a combination of the posterior lateral and anterior medial bundle injury of the ACL8.
Twisting injures: Twisting injury mostly happen during cutting or pivoting motions. These Studies have revealed over 70% of these injuries happening in the noncontact situations. Landing on a flexed and externally rotated knee eccentrically loads the quadriceps, which can result in isolated anterior medial bundle tears8-9.
Combination of hyper extension and twisting injuries in ACL injury especially in the sports happened when the foot is planted and player suddenly turn and change direction or landing from a jump in the valgus position, collapse in slight flexion combined with rotation or hyper extension and rotation. This injury is coming from the rotational force mechanism with compressive force type like the weight bearing. In this type results are more meniscal injury and osteochondral fractures. The risk of rupturing the ACL is different between the sexes, anatomical factors and neuromuscular properties as well as females have greater knee laxity compared with men8-9. …show more content…

The unhappy triad is example of combination injury, happened from valgus rotation force where the ACL, Medial meniscus and the medial collateral ligament injured together. The combination mechanism which is the result of combined external rotation, flexion and Valgus position: combination mechanism in sport happen specially when extension of anterior force come on the extended knee in the plantar foot position. Dislocation of the knee joint can associated to rupture of ACL by high-speed motor vehicle
