I did my research on the country of Lithuania for this former communist paper. The country of Lithuania is located in the north eastern part of Europe. Lithuania borders the countries Poland and Belarus which are to the south of Lithuania and then Latvia to the north. Lithuania became a communist country in October of 1918, the communist party of Lithuania (2). There was several different leaders of this party but the one that was in power the longest throughout the years was Antanas Sniečkus (2). On March 11th 1990 Lithuania declared their independence but it was not till almost a year and a half later that the country’s independence would be recognized by the Soviet Union on September 6th 1991 (1). The European country of Lithuania had an estimated population of 2,884,433 for July of 2015 (1). There is a few different languages that people use in Lithuania but the most popular one is Lithuanian which 82% of the population speaks (1). Besides Lithuanian there is also Russian and Polish spoken for most of the remaining population in Lithuania (1). The current population growth is actually -0.5 during 2010-2015 years which is an average annual percentage for Lithuania (3). In Lithuania there is a bunch of small religions under 1% but by far the most common religion is Roman Catholic at 77.2% (1). The other 22.8% comes from either people that have none, unspecified or follow a less public religion (1). The most popular cities include Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda which are the top three for popular in 2014 (4). All three of these cities have a population over 150,000 which is over twice the amount of people in Palatine but Palatine has a higher density of people per square mile (5). From researching the country of Lithuania I was able to get a general overview if how the country is doing in many different aspects. With the learned statistics about Lithuania’s background, economic, standard of living, financial status, political stand point and environmental surroundings I can clearly get a good understanding of what it would be like to live in Lithuania. Also it was shown that the different countries around the world have their own specialties or strengths of things that they are better at. I had always been told that the United States is a great place to live and how lots of people want to move to the United States and through some of these stats I can see that yeah the United States generally does have better conditions. In conclusion this is what I have developed as my understanding of the wellbeing of the people living in Lithuania.
The United States of America has always been held in high regards by immediate neighboring countries as well as a host of other countries. In comparison to a majority of other countries in the globe the US holds superior living standards, stronger economy and expert technology. This was case for mina Anderson who immigrated to the US in search of Green pastures in terms of better pay and better living standards in comparison to the condition back in her native Sweden. The United States is not the greatest country in the world. However, for a very long time, people have believed that the United States tops the list. This is because of the classic lifestyle and technological advancements portrayed in our daily media. The United States is portrayed as a country of peace and optimum harmony. Consequently, we get the impression that United States is the best place to be. The younger generation seems to enjoy life to the fullest with almost no regrets. After all, most of us can drive a car at the age of 16; compare that to other countries at 18. We have access to pretty much whatever we need. Most adults are not constantly monitoring and hovering over their children. They have jobs and financial prosperity is huge compared to other countries. The security system of our country is depicted to be superb. In other words, nothing seems amiss. In fact, many citizens in the developing world have sought to stay in the United States with the belief that their life will be the best in the world. The search for green cards is ever increasing because of immigration. Statistics indicate that the American Embassies in most developing countries are among the busiest, which is a good thing right? Nevertheless, I believe that United States is not the greatest country. A close examination of various sectors of the country reveals that America lags behind in many aspects.
A change in political policy or a within the business environment, for example, may improve the quality of life of citizens in one aspect, but have indirect effects that may simultaneously decrease the quality of life in another. It is important to look at all possible benefits and consequences of the differences between countries, in order to accurately analyze and compare their citizens’ respective overall quality of life.
Communism and Democracy are two different kinds of philosophies that impacted Poland. Democracy is a political system of government, which is ruled by the people who elect representatives that are relied on to fulfil the society’s needs. Communism, on the other hand, is a political belief that is mainly concerned with equality. In Communism, everyone is treated equally when it comes to pay and their opinions, which people cannot have many of. Also in Communism, everyone has food, shelter, and economic support. Compared to many other countries and including many important factors, the general health of the people of Latvia is poor. Many issues affect this problem. Latvia was also a country previously under Soviet control. Bordered by Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, and Belarus, Latvia is a country on the smaller side. The Central Intelligence Agency reports, the population of Latvia is 2,165,165 people in 2014. Much of the younger group of the population get many deadly diseases, and the overall environment of the country affects the how healthy the people are.

From the 1990s to 1995 in Southeastern Europe, specifically those states in the Western Balkans fought in a war between their fellow bordering states. The conflict began due to Bosnia’s interracial mixture of people specifically in relation to Bosnian Muslims, Serbs, and Croats. The war was mainly between Serbians, Croatians, and Bosnians as the Serbian motives to participate in the war were focused around ethnic differences. This investigation will determine the extent to which Serbia’s involvement in the Bosnian War was due to religious reasons through the research question: “To what extent was Serbia’s involvement in the Bosnian war from 1990 to 1995 due to religious causes?”
Miklos Lengyel – Miklos was the husband of Olga before and during the Holocaust. He was the director of his own hospital in Cluj, Transylvania. He was very skilled in his practice and devoted a lot of time and effort into it. Miklos was a smart man and knew that he was always in a state of peril because of the German occupation. Early in 1944, an incident occurred. Miklos was accused of boycotting German pharmaceutical preparations in his hospital. He was able to get out of this situation, but it was not long before he was brought in again. In May, Miklos was brought in again and this time, he was being deported to Germany. At this point, Miklos and his family were sent to Auschwitz and Birkenau. He was separated from his wife while his children and parents-in-law were sent to the gas chambers. Miklos was able to see his wife again a few days after they were imprisoned.
Lebanon is a diverse small mountainous country in Asia (Darwiche 3: 1266). Despite Lebanon’s small size, it was recorded recorded to have a population close to 3.5 million people in the late 90 's (Darwiche 3: 1266). However, the population has greatly risen since that time due to approximately one million Syrian refugees entering the country (Cammett). Lebanon and the United States contrast in many ways in terms of religion and how it affects government and education, but there are more similarities in these categories than one might predict.
Religions and practices are prominent throughout the world, and have major impacts to their followers and societies who practice it. They make up more than 84% of the entire world population, and many of them are similar in many ways.
Imagine a seven year old boy sitting in class. He is anxious for the day to begin and anticipates its end. Finally, his teacher starts to speak about what will be happening in class that day. The boy looks up in wonderment and confusion. His teacher is speaking in a completely different language than the boy is accustomed to. This little boy is growing up in Latvia, but the language he has grown up learning, in his home, is Russian. The boy, having always heard both languages while growing up, eventually pieced together what the teacher was saying; and later realizes he is going to have to adapt to a new language. This seems to be a common occurrence in Latvian schools. Because of Latvia’s history, back and forth, between Soviet and independent rule, a large population of Russians have migrated, or been moved to, Latvia. This has had a large impact on the way education works in Latvia. The Eastern Union (EU) has also, recently, started to make a difference in the way education works in Latvia.
In determining the influences that relate to the living standard of people in a country, I will consider the different issues in each argument and analyze it with statistical data. The influences evaluated will consist of the social, economic and political conditions in the country, which will be proven to be the most significant when considering its effect on the happiness and living standards of people residing in a country. As money is strongly correlated to happiness and the wellbeing of people due to its ability to provide, the economic portion will be considered in the relationship between a country’s wealth and the living standards. Furthermore, the social factor of a nation and how its citizens are living affect the living standards of people in a country. These factors include multiple aspects of social wellbeing such as the education, health and happiness, and crime rates which ultimately affect the living standards of people residing in a certain region.
