Because the four main characters rarely interact with one another, its difficult to feel like there is any magnitude of the events taking place thus far. For example, after Rylin is forced to work Cord’s party, she is not seen again until after the party, four chapters later, when she ends up staying after the party and kissing Cord. If Rylin interacted with Cord or Eris at the party, it seems like there would be more consequences underlying that event. It would have also given the reader more insight into the nuances of the tower’s hierarchical social-system. Everything we learn about these characters is through backstory or a second-hand source, making it far less interesting than if it was gradually revealed in real time through their choices and interactions with other
