A Memorable Trip
“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” These words by Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. perfectly describe how my travel experience in Singapore this past summer has changed my life. Traveling to Singapore with my family has been a component on my bucket list that I never thought I would ever be able to accomplish at such a young age. Through my travel, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the culture by living life as a local while visiting the major tourist spots that the country had to offer. I also had firsthand experience with the Singaporean lifestyle and I was so amazed by the beauty of the country. Because of this, my travel to Singapore has given me an open-minded perspective on countries and has broadened my horizons in terms of travelling to new places.

Despite having woken up just a few hours after midnight and running very low on sleep, I was ecstatic that I was finally given an opportunity to visit such a multicultural country. As the airplane began to ascend, I leaned back into the stiff seat and gripped on the armrest because although I have flown a couple of times in the past, I always seemed to get nauseous and apprehensive whenever the plane took off. It was interesting to see that nearly all of our participants had travelled out of the country. Some of our interviewees had even been to more than 10 different countries. One girl that was a participant in particular had been to over an incredible 20 countries such as Italy, Germany, France and Hong Kong, more incredibly at only age 16. She said that she loves going to new countries and getting a feel for how different cultures live, and to be able to learn their cultural customs during her ventures. Another insight provided from our interviews was that only just this year, a 19 year old student went on a month long trip to India with his family. As his mother was from India; this trip involved meeting relatives for the first time and getting in touch with the culture his biological background presented. He described this opportunity as the best thing he’s ever done. It is safe to assume that this month long voyage would have provided meaningful insight towards his growing global mindset.
Implicitly, traveling is the best form of education, as it is “fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness”(Twain 243). The educational value of travel is indescribable and is often presented in its simplest terms. Ideally, the ability to rove about provides more than just an opportunity to explore. Not only is it enriching to expand one’s knowledge, but also clearly it is proven to be a great resource as the world is the ultimate classroom.
I did not want to leave. I had been here for ten days and I had established relationships and friendships with people from everywhere and all sorts of backgrounds. We all sat in the car preparing to leave. Every single one of us, my parents, brother and me, sitting in silence. Wanting to cry, waiting for someone to say the first word. Each of us had learned something that trip. For me, this experience had taught me what gratefulness was, the impact a good attitude has, what a servant looks like, and really how the relationships we make with our life is the most important aspect about life.
My study tour to Singapore has equipped me with patience, persistence and positive attitude. Conducting surveys on streets might not be easy, since passers-by are usually in a hurry, heading to their destinations. Despite receiving several denials, I learnt to remain cheerful and friendly when approaching people, shortening our interpersonal distance. Furthermore, such exposure to a foreign country broadened my horizon, encouraging me to see things in multiple perspectives instead of holding on to a one-sided perception of the world.
When the door shut quietly, it slowly woke me up and then I remembered. Today was the day of the launch. The 3 day journey was going to commence shortly. I had to get ready, I slipped into my normal clothes, prepared to not wear them for 3 days, and grabbed my car keys. I locked the door to my apartment, and jogged over to my Ford Escape. I got in and went to NASA and showed security my pass. They let me in, I parked my car, and went in the administration office I signed in, and went to meet Harry in room E-31. Going on a road trip with my family means the world to me. We drove to another state during summer vacation, and it was by far the best road trip I have ever been on. My family and I were able to go to many fun places. We ate so many exotic and delicious foods as well. Yet most importantly, I spent time with my family and their friends. It was the day when my family and I went to California for our summer vacation.
The world is full of wonders and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, that we take advantage of. Traveling is the ultimate education and it never fails as a teacher. It teaches you things no class can about the world and yourself. Seeing a historical spot and being in the environment it is in teaches you what no text book can. Most people hear about what is happening in the world through the bias not understanding media. However, if you are a traveler the real world influences you in a way the media will never be able to. We understand how the world works with its many cultures and lifestyles. Being a part of and experiencing different cultures broadens your views of the world and changing’s what you think of the world. Having expanded knowledge and understanding about culture is not the only thing travelers have. Finding your true self and learning about who you are is the best thing about being a traveler. There is no better way to find yourself because when you travel you open yourself up to millions of opportunities. Without travel you may be completely unaware of your true persona. Your limits are tested and you are completely out of your comfort zone when traveling. Getting out of the comfort zone helps you grow as a person and see your potential. I have experienced many different cultures that have personally changed myself and my outlook of the world. Traveling has given me the greatest education I know more about the world, cultures, and myself. Being a traveler is a huge blessing in my life I am so glad I am able to travel and see the world. Nothing can take away the memories that traveling and being a traveler has brought me. Get out there and see this beautiful world for yourself and become a traveler, you will not regret
Throughout someone’s life they will go to many places with their family, friends, another relatives. I have been on a few vacations that have made a lasting impact on my life. But one of the most memorable vacations I have experienced was with my cousins. I went to goa beach. Most of you probably don’t know about that beach but it is a very famous one in south India. I enjoyed myself to the fullest. The beach environment was enlightening. I would not have wanted to take this trip with anyone other than my cousins. We had a great time on the ocean sands and swimming in the ocean everyday made this vacation unforgettable.
Asia was awesome! Everything, from the food I ate to the people I met, gave me a new perspective on life. I still cannot get over the fact that I have traveled to the other side of the world. This school program gave me many memorable experiences, allowed me to learn a lot about the culture of Asia, and introduced me to friends that I'll treasure for a life time. I knew that there was a reason I got to go, and while I was there I tried to make the most of such an opportunity.

Tourism is an important and intricate element to society. It affects economical, social, cultural and environmental elements. Tourism can be argued to have a negative impact on the environment and decrease our already depleting resources, but tourism can also be argued to be a major contributor to strengthening economies, spread cultural traditions and improve people’s lives. I was so ecstatic to go on this field trip and so was everyone else. Of course I knew why, everyone loves field trips. Everyone that had seen the one man show reported that it was impeccable performance. Furthermore, I was adrenalized because I didn’t have to do any work. Before the show, all I thought was that it would be a normal bus ride. One that would be loud, but everyone minded their own business.
