Salva learned while walking through the desert, if you want to go the way you go, pain is sometimes in the path, you just have to push through it. “The first day in the desert felt like the longest day Salva had ever lived through. The sun was relentless and eternal: There was neither a wisp of cloud nor whiff of breeze for relief. Each minute of walking in that arid heat felt like an hour. Salva had to continue his path even though he got hurt. “The days became a never-ending walk. Salva’s feet kept time with the thoughts in his head, the same words over and over: Where Is my family? Where Is my family?” (Park, 22). So much time has passed and Salva is still hurt that he left his family members. But Salva got through the pain by trying to not think about them and kept going. Salva later found his uncle and he was so hurt that his uncle was going to leave him to got to war. “I will return to Sudan, to fight in the war. Salva stopped walking and clutched Uncle’s arm But, Uncle, I will have no one!
