A Letter of Thanks

The other day I went to scouts and we were having a court of honor. During the court of honor some people got rank advancements and Brother Ray was talking about how they were on the path to Eagle Scout. For some reason the mention of Eagle Scout made me think of you and how you were such a great example to everyone. I know you might not think so but you were a great example to me and all of the young men when you were here, and now that you’re on a mission you are being an even greater example.
In English class with Mrs. Cranston we watch a movie called “One Small Act” and it was about a lady named Hilde Back who donated money for a kid in Africa to go to school then to college. The kid ended up going through college and graduating, he eventually started a charity for other kids in Africa to go to school. This made me think of all the small acts that happen every day and how they affect me and people around me. Then I remembered thinking about the court of honor and you. I want to thank you for being you and for all of the small acts of kindness. I also remember seeing a study that said people who show gratitude are happier than those who don’t, and I thought this would be a great way for me to show some gratitude to you. I am not just writing because of the movie or because of the study I saw, I am mostly writing because of how much of a role model you have been to me, so when I say this has been a long time coming I mean it.
Each Wednesday I would go to activities and see you there socializing and having fun but I would also see you setting a good example and I admired you for that. Three points of your personality that really draw my admiration are how you act in school, how you act at church, and how you act around family and...

...t church or on Wednesday at youth group I always knew that if I hung out with you I would be safe and happy. I knew that you wouldn’t put me or anyone around me down. This was a great feeling that I got from you so I have tried to follow your example so that I would be able to have the same effect on other people. Going on a mission and being active in our church is a very worthy cause and it gains a lot of appreciation and admiration from me.
You might try to just shrug this off and say you aren’t as good as I say you are, but know that everything I say in this letter I truly support and believe with my whole heart. There are very few people that I hold in such high regard as I do you. I’m so sorry that I haven’t written to you once the who time that you have been gone so far, but know that this won’t be the last time that I write you either by letter or by email.
