Introduction It should be noted that the way a film is planned, designed and the environment and culture in which the film is acted are very important in understanding the theme, message and the purpose of a movie. A poorly planned movie or film, for example, may not pass the right message. Using the movie entitled Boys N the hood, this paper will exemplify how why planning, design, environment, culture and society are crucial towards understanding the general message, theme and purpose of the movie. The analysis will be based on thesis statement that the movie entitled Boys N the Hood is a high quality movie because it is well-planned, designed, contextualized and should at that it at least express one cultural or societal issue. The key areas Planning film starts with choosing the title of the movie. The title should suggest or should be in line with the theme or key message. The title of the movie is Boys N the Hood. A closer look at the title reveals that it is in some way related to the movie as whole. The structure and style of the movie is also reflective of the general purpose of the movie. Things to consider include how scene are cut, the specific scenes that constitutes film climax and why the film conclude in that particular way (Spadoni, 2014). Basically, the movie presents a case of a mother who realizes she can no longer raise her son by herself. The mother finally hands over all custodial rights to the father. Later in the movie, the son is in a car with friends who are planning to engage in serious crimes such as murder. The theme that the movie intends to pass is the impact of built in environment on the behavior of teenagers. However, in order to bring out this theme clearly, the producer and director need to plan many things such as the one mentioned above. The choice of the title “The Boy in the Hood” gives some hint towards the theme of in built environment. Hood is a place such as ghetto where order is not always observed. Teenagers can get easily misled through peer pressures while in hood. This means that audience can easily figure out what the movie is going to focus on right from the time they see the title.
