The story A Dog’s Tale is about a dog describing its life. You can tell by the first sentence of the story; "My father was a St. Bernard, my mother was a collie, but I am a Presbyterian." At the beginning of the story it tells about the dog's life as a puppy, and the separation from her mother. A Presbyterian named Aileen tells her life story from birth to adulthood. Her mother was a Collie, and her father was a St. Bernard. In the story it goes on to tell about the life of Aileen and how she was adopted into a new home with a new family, the Grey's. Her new life was as perfect as it could get. She had days filled with joy and excitement. Mr. and Mrs. Grey had a infant baby, and some days Aileen would sit and watch her in her crib. Gray, would experiment and work. Besides the joy she got from playing in her home, she also had a big back yard space that she could play in and call her own. She once found another puppy, a Presbyterian just like her. They became closer and closer and they even had a puppy of their own. Aileen is not just a loyal friend but a hero. One day when there is a house fire in the nursery, Aileen rescues the newborn and carries it to safety. Although Aileen saved the day and rescued the small infant, her owners misunderstood the whole situation and Aileen was crucially beaten. The servant of the family home was the only one who knew that Aileen was only trying to save the baby, and felt very sorry for the dog. However, soon after the truth of the situation was revealed and Aileen received endless praise. Her puppy then later died from the results of the biological experiments from her owners. The end of the story consists of the Dog mourning her dead puppy and she spends the rest of her life doing

Faye is fighting to re-home animals that have been abandoned and abused. Since 2012 she has re-homed more than 60 dogs, and about 20 kittens. Faye says, “I would do anything no matter what to save one animal.” It’s as if her whole entire life revolves around saving animals. Faye thinks just by adopting an animal you can help animal abandonment. Also, Faye has her own book on why animal abandonment isn’t good. Although Faye thinks her job is stressful, she thinks it’s easy because she enjoys doing her job and helping animals find a home.
The granny has a flashback to a little bit after she gives birth to her daughter. She talks about how everyone thought she was joking about the child and feeding it hay, but to her there was no love for this child she had. Her daughter Sylvie grew up without her mother’s love and became a wild child resulting in a child out of wedlock. Granny felt guilty she had not felt the love for her own child and carried that with her daily. Granny had a fear that her granddaughter would turn out the same way, she could already see that she was on that path. Granny did love one thing in her life, her little dog. She took the dog with her to work at the church and she loved it more than she felt like she could love any other thing. Page 282 says, “-the little dog found her. He could be counted on. He barked all the way, and squealed when she pulled the burr from his ear.” She felt something for this dog, that she could not feel for her own child part of me feels as though that is also contributing to her guilt towards the whole

The day Mom got Sugar was somewhat frightening for me. Obviously, I wanted nothing to do with the dog, I never planned to be in the same room as the dog, much less, take care of the dog. After all, Mom was supposed to take care of the dog. Slowly, I fell in love with her. She looked stern and loving. Her warm, brown eyes and pearly white smile only helped me fall in love with her. Not long after that I started to enjoy her company. Sugar was a loyal dog, she wanted to please everyone. When we went for a walk Sugar would come with us. We kept her on a leash, yet she never strayed from us.
As a kid, I fell in love with the idea of getting a puppy for Christmas. Wrapped in a small box with a bow on top sitting under the tree just like the movies and tv shows I had seen. I can remember making a Christmas list of all the things I wanted that year, and every year the same thing that I wanted had said “puppy” with it underlined so that my mother knew which was my favorite on the list. Every year no surprise, I didn’t find a dog. I never understood why I never received one. When the kids at school talked about the few dogs they had at home made me so jealous, but I hoped that one day it would be me to have my own best friend at home.
“That dog is so futile! All he does is sniff, bark, and whine! I can’t tolerate with such a dog!” I sighed to myself as my beagle, Puddles, circumnavigated around me, twitching his tail. I pushed him away and perambulated off to my room. I am not friends with animals, and even though I live on an old farm with my grandfather and grandmother, animals are not one of my interests. Puddles, was an old dog but with much energy. He was constantly jumping up and down on people with his muddy, and feculent paws.

Often during times of distress people use religion as a way of coping with problems. The dog in the story is “. . . turned over upon his back, and held his paws in a peculiar manner. At the same time with his ears and his eyes he offered a small prayer to the child”(Crane, "A Dark Brown Dog") this happens several times in the story which usually brings the little boy happiness. The dog also allowed the child to occasionally take out anger on it even when no reason was given. The dog played a safe haven that allowed the boy to believe things will get better shown here: “When misfortune came upon the child, and his troubles overwhelmed him, he would often crawl under the table and lay his small distressed head on the dog 's back. The dog was ever sympathetic”(Crane, "A Dark Brown Dog"). The story eventually ends with the dog 's death by the hands of the child 's father here: “The father of the family paid no attention to these calls of the child, but advanced with glee upon the dog...He rolled over on his back and held his paws in a peculiar manner. At the same time with his eyes and his ears he offered up a small prayer...the father was in a mood for having fun, and it occurred to him that it would be a fine thing to throw the dog out of the window”(Crane, "A Dark Brown Dog"). Her feline companion (who she does not know is talking to her) informs her of her lover’s marriage to a wealthy woman, which she presumably cannot be hurt by anymore considering her death. She guesses again, and it lands on “kin”, who is a family member. She is notified by the dog of their acknowledgment that mourning will not be of benefit as she will not come back to life. The woman gives a final guess, and asks if it is her enemy. She learns the opposite, that her enemy has concluded the woman’s unworthiness after death.
Ever since I can remember I’ve wanted a dog. Never did I think that dogs would end up being by biggest fear. I was just a little kid around 6 years old when it happened. I was walking home from my friend’s house when I saw a stray dog, it was in the middle of the street blocking my way, I decided to walk past it, while I was walking it started growling at me, I hesitated but still kept trying to walk then suddenly it got up and started barking empathically towards me. I was terrified, my first initial reaction being a 6 year old kid was to scare it away, I was ignorant. I picked up a rock and threw it at the dog thinking it’ll get scared and run away. I was wrong. The dog had enough it made a whimpering noise then started barking even louder
