A Comparison of Tristan and Yselt with Theseus and the Minotaur In my comparison coursework I will be comparing the play that I performed, this play was Tristan and Yselt. I will be comparing it to the well-known Greek tale of Theseus and the Minotaur. There is one thing these have in common; this is that they are both myths. On is a Cornish legend and the other is a Greek myth, this is why I am comparing them. First I will give a brief description of both of the plays. Tristan and Yselt is a not so well known legend it roots I will go into more detail later. It was about an unpleasant man named Margh who married a fine young lady named Yselt. Margh often abandoned Yselt whilst going out hunting or something. She was left at home to cook and clean. An ignorant, selfish and sexist man would think and believe this is where a woman belonged - by the kitchen sink. One-man new better, a kind a caring man, who was handsome, talented and a great poet. He was the cousin of Margh his name was Tristan. That night Tristan entertained the castles residents with songs and dance. Yselt was taken by Tristan's passion and soon they fell in love. They arranged to run away to Brittany to Tristans castle in France. So they mounted their fine longboat and sailed the way to France. Meanwhile Margh sent out his men to find the escaping runaways, but it was to late they had come and gone - probably half way there. There was nothing Margh could do, his men had drowned and his wife had runaway, all he could do was cry. Sometime later Margh summoned Tristan and Yselt to the court of king Arthur, so they went and visited the dreaded place. As the arrived they met Margh for the first time since they ran away. An argument brewed about Yselt until a sudden silence echoed through the building. It was the wizard Merlin he tried to settle the argument of who should have Yselt, he
