Having a strong work ethic is essential to making it through the school’s program as well as being able to handle everyday challenges that may be thrown your way. An Ultrasound Technician who possesses a strong work ethic will show reliability, productivity, dedication, and cooperation, all of which are vital to this career. One of the most important traits a good Ultrasound Technician should have is to have good communication skills. Whether communicating with the patient, other co-workers, or the physician, communication needs to be professional, friendly, and orderly. In this field, you often have at least two people working with one patient (Sonographer and Physician), this means that both oral and written messages need to be accurate in order to produce the most effective plan for the patient. Furthermore, this leads me to what I consider is the next very important trait a Sonographer should possess which is having a good attitude. Unfortunately, people say more often than not that medical professionals they have interacted with do not have a good "bedside manner.” One thing that will make a superior Ultrasound Technician stand out from an inferior one is their attitude. This includes their attitude towards patients, …show more content…
Being a compassionate person will help me in the sonography field to a great extent. In my opinion, if a patient has something wrong with them or has negative results during a test, I will be able to comfort them well. Being compassionate and detail-oriented will help when explaining the procedure with a calm and reassuring presence. I know that when I have medical procedures performed on me, I am usually very nervous, so I can definitely use that personal experience to relate to patients who may feel uneasy and scared during any procedure I will be performing. I have always known that I was a quick learner and that when I learn something it sticks, and I do not forget it. This helps me also continuously build up more and more knowledge about different topics. With entering a field like sonography, I can only imagine, that like most other medical fields, things are constantly getting updated and changed. As I see it, this field uses technology as its diagnostic tool, newer products and software will always be coming out. I am a person who will be able to adapt to this ever-changing field by being a quick learner. Being a detail-oriented person will also help me to succeed in this career because I will be able to pick up anything that is out of the ordinary on the images produced. I will be able to
As an ultrasound technician/sonographer I will have the ability to see dangerous defects within the human anatomy and begin a lifelong profession with many benefits. The Ultrasound was first invented in the early 1900’s and was surprisingly not used to produce photos of a fetus. In 1917 Paul Langen a marine life scientist used a form of ultrasound equipment in his attempt to detect submarines. After many failed attempts at using high frequency sound waves Dr. Ian Donald and his team in Glasgow, Scotland invented the first ultrasound machine in 1957. Dr. Donald even tested his machine on patients within a year of completing the invention, by the late 1950’s ultrasounds became routine in Glasgow hospitals.
I have always been fascinated with the medical field ever since I was little, my first choice for electives were always health science and anatomy classes. After my cousin, Deanna, had her first child and receive her first ultrasound, I knew that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. The ultrasound technician had made her feel so comforted and just made the entire experience enjoyable for everyone; I’m eager to be able to start my life with a job that I know I will love. Anytime that I meet someone who is in the field themselves, I always ask questions and listen to what they do throughout the day to get some real insight on what being a technician really entails.
No matter what field I begin in, ER, maternity or intensive care. I will work as diligently and as efficiently as I could. It would not matter whether I had the day or night shift or if I was walking out the door to go home and a patient came in and needed help. Every patient that I work with will know I have the intention of helping them as well as I can. My personality is a “Persuader” which means I am most sociable of all
Diagnostic medical sonography is a profession where sonographers direct high-frequency sound waves into a patient’s body through the use of specific equipment to diagnose or monitor a patient’s medical condition. As described by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this examination is referred to as an ultrasound, sonogram, or echocardiogram. The high-frequency sound waves emitted from the handheld device, called a transducer, bounce back creating an echo and therefore produce an image that can be viewed on the sonographers computer screen. This image provides the sonographer and physician with an internal image of the patient’s body that will be used in the diagnosis. The most familiar use of ultrasound is used in monitoring pregnancies and is provided by obstetric and gynecologic sonographers, who also provide imaging of the female reproductive system. Other types of sonography include; abdominal sonography, breast sonography, musculoskeletal sonography, neurosonography and cardiovascular sonography. Due to the vast nature of uses in sonography, most professionals study one field that they choose to specialize in. Diagnostic medical sonography is a rapidly growing field because of the increase in medical advances. The area of Cleveland, Ohio has continued to rise in the medical field with great strides, providing better career prospects with the availability of numerous employment positions.
I haven’t always wanted to be a cardiac sonographer. The desire to be in this career just started to spark an interest in me a couple years back. You see, since I was a little girl I had always dreamt of becoming an architect or an interior designer. At first, the design aspect of that occupation interested me greatly. My dream started to fall short when I realized that a job like this would require me to make a move to a bigger city and that is something that I do not wish to pursue. This meant it was time to find another path to go down and reconfigure my future.
To be a speech pathologist one needs to be an expert in all aspects of speech and communication as well as be able to efficiently interview, test, evaluate, treat, and work with a client. It is important to have the education along with this knowledge, however to really excel and to a great speech pathologist, there needs to be something more to stand out from the crowd; this being the drive and an individual’s strengths and charter traits. Three characteristics that I possess that I believe would make me a successful speech pathologist is my passion for children, adaptability, and creativity.
Dealing with babies and people is something I love, and I want to incorporate that into a job. That’s why becoming an Ultrasound Technician is something I was to pursue because I have the heart for working in the medical field, I love babies, and I will be constantly using skills every day on the job. I have been influenced by my family and friends because they always tell me how I have the heart for working in the medical field. They say I would absolutely love it if I stick with it. My personality assessment and interest inventory told me that I would be best in working in a health career because of my ability to constantly help people and how much I care about my accomplishments. I care more about my prestige and accomplishments than my
The current demand is high for sonographers throughout the United States and abroad. It has been shown that the demand for sonographers will continue to increase well into the future. Although being academically smart is an important factor for this program, there are also other qualities that are just as important if not more. Some of those qualities that can make you an exceptional sonographer are being compassionate, caring, and being able to work well with others. The reason why I said this is because I believe “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care” (John C. Maxwell). Also it’s critical that you understand the concept of teamwork and that you can work well with others. In this field you need to work with doctors and other caregivers to deliver the best care for the patient. I can assure you that if you give me this opportunity to study in this great program, you will not be disappointed, but in fact be pleased, because I will do whatever it takes to complete this program successfully and become a great diagnostic medical sonographer. hank you Tan and Hyana for allowing me to shadow Ultrasound last Thursday the 21st! I loved the experience and feel better about the preparations I am taking for the future. I've always enjoyed visual and tangible work, as well as helping others. The two important parts of my life have been nonprofit/volunteer work and my sculpting/art hobbies. Being a diagnostic medical Sonographer seems like a really neat middle point for me.

... a patient down when they are scared. I know this career will not always be an easy one because you will come across some patients that can be combative, grumpy or scared and being able to learn how to communicate with them will make the process more smoothly. There will come a time when you come across a patient that will pull at your heart, as hard as it is I will have to keep my emotions in control but not so much so that I forget how to be gentle and caring with the patients because you may never know what their stories are.
Luckily, I am very comfortable with patients, which made providing care very easy. I was not afraid to go into other patient’s rooms if they rang for help. I would try my best to help the patients; however, if I needed help I was not afraid to ask a fellow student or nurse on the staff. It is very important to be able to talk to patients and work as a team with fellow coworkers as it made the job easier. On the other hand, I need to go over mother and baby assessments to become more familiar with both. I was able to complete the assessments; I now need to do so in a timelier manner while ensuring I do not forget any key areas. Lastly, it is vital that I continue to go over patient teaching prior to clinical. Being comfortable with the patients made the teaching easier, though I need to become more familiar with all the material that needs to be taught.
Honesty and integrity are very important in the medical field. We as healthcare workers are given such trust and responsibility. We should always strive to do our best and when faced with tough situations. When we don't always know what to do or the proper way to react we should always be honest. Let our superiors know what is going on and ask for advice when we need to. This would show that we are honest. When we come into contact with patients they rely on us to do the right thing and always perform our job with integrity. Often people’s lives are in our hands. We have to care about the patient and care about our job in order to continue to provide quality care. If someone hates their job they are not going to give their best in every way they can. The medical field is not a place for that person.
