In the play Romeo and Juliet there are many types of love present throughout the course of the story and involves many of the characters. These types of love include romantic, platonic or friendly, and finally familial. The most obvious type of love present in the play is the romantic love shared between Romeo and Juliet as their passion for each other is what drives the story; the first time we see their love is in the party scene where they share glances and ultimately kiss. See their love is what ignited the initial plot and there are more examples of this love in the play such as when they got married and the most important moment being when they killed themselves thinking their lover had died demonstrating their devotion towards each other.

The other two types of love also include the concept of devotion along with affecting the story as well however not to the extent as the romantic love between the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The first type is called platonic love, or a love shared between friends, and this love can be observed between Romeo, Mercutio, and Benvolio, along with Juliet and the Nurse; both of these relationships play a key factor within the play. See, we all have family of some sort; you know people you can never not love and hating them in never an option because they are family. This familial love present in the plot is what complicates the love between Romeo and Juliet since both of their parents love their children so much they would not want them to marry the enemy thus trying to protect what they love.
