The 2,300 day prophecy in Daniel 8:14 is one of the more difficult prophecies in Daniel to understand. It reads, “For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed.” (NKJV). From this verse many questions arise: When does this prophecy begin and end? What sanctuary is represented here? What is the significance of the cleansing of the sanctuary? The purpose of this paper is to present the most commonly held views of this prophecy and show the most favorable explanation. Vision of chapter 8 Let us start with the broader context of this prophecy. In Daniel chapter 8:1-14, Daniel sees a vision of 2 animals: a ram and a goat. These beasts are a contrast to the amalgamated beasts he saw in chapter 7. The ram comes up first having two horns, with one horn higher than the other. He pushed towards the west, north, and south and no animal could withstand him. Suddenly, a goat arises from the west, moving so quickly that his foot does not touch the ground. It is important to acknowledge that “the major interpretive difficulties in these two chapters are the identity of characters and places, as well as the time when these events occur.” There are vast elucidations regarding the invasion of Gog and Magog, therefore, requiring a concentration on Dispensationalism and various scholars interpretations to include: “John Walvoord, beginning of the tribulation; D.L. Cooper, before the tribulation; A.C. Gaebelein, beginning of the millennium; Charles Feinberg, end of the tribulation; and C.C. Ryrie, multiple fulfillments,” each having its own strengths and weaknesses, is the basis of this work. This being said, this paper will not postulate a conclusive resolution when concerning this prophecy, rather it will patron an culmination of the tribulation position, as many souls have disputed over this topic throughout the centuries.

The Book of Daniel is the only full-blown apocalyptic book in the Protestant recognized version of the Canon. A literary device divides the book into two halves. Chapters 1-6 are a collection of stories that introduces the reader to Daniel and three other Israelites as unwilling guests of the Babylonia Empire ruled by Nebuchadnezzar. The second half, Chapters 7-12 consists of apocalyptic imagery of deformed beasts and the heavenly court. The focus of this paper will be on chapter 7, which serves as a bridge of the two halves. Chapter 7 is the earliest of the visions as it identifies with the genre of 8-12 while through language and content it reverts to Daniel chapter 2. The linguistic break down is not as neat as the literary divide in that Dan. 2:4b-7:28 was written in Aramaic while other portions of the book is written in Hebrew.
The Book of Daniel took place in between 605 BC and 530 BC however the message is still relevant in today’s society, 2544 years later. Different themes are found in the book. These themes teach a lesson which can be used into today’s society. Even though the times, tradition and circumstances are different now than it was back then the messages are greatly relevant. The main themes of the book were about faithfulness toward what you believe in no matter what society says or the dangers. God is trustworthy and does everything for a reason no matter if the person is in the worst spot ever in life they have to believe there is something better in the future. Also Gods ability to save his children in the face of danger and will give them justice, and that god gives messages in mysterious ways.

Dispensationalism has been gaining followers for many years and its popularity can be seen in many places, such as in the Left Behind series which has captured the minds of many people around the world (Pagels 1). Now with historical context in mind, it is time to see what Dispensationalism teaches. Dispensationalism has three distinct characteristics: Rapture of Christians, Millennium Rule of Christ, and the Unfulfilled Prophecies of the Bible. For the purpose of this paper they will all be examined separately. The Rapture is the belief that Christians will be brought up and not have to endure the Tribulation (Robinson). The term “rapture” does not occur in the Bible but instead comes from a Latinized version of the word arpadzo which comes from “caught up” (Witherington 94). The belief in the Rapture for Dispensationalists is based on 1st Thessalonians 4:16-17 which they claim describes an event where living Christians return to heaven with Christ (Robinson). Secondly, the Millennium Rule is the belief that Jesus Christ will literally rule over earth for 1,000 years after the Tribulation (Robinson). The key here is that (as opposed to the Post-Millennial views) the believers have no part in setting up his reign

The term millennium does not appear anywhere in Scripture. The idea originated from a thousand year period of time that characterizes the reign of the Messiah. In fact, the phrase “thousand years” is stated six times in Revelation 20. There are three main schools of thought based upon one’s view of the thousand-year reign of Christ. These views are: Amillennial, Postmillennial and Premillennial. Over the centuries these prophetic differences have caused conflict within the body of Christ and are still currently widely debated. Instead of the book of Revelation being the basis of comfort (1 Thess. 4:18) among Christians it has become a bone of contention. However, this controversy should not deter Christ’s disciples from receiving the blessings that Revelation has to offer (Rev. 1:3; 14:13; 16:15; 19:9; 20:6; 22:7, 14). Rather, one should study prophecy under the Spirit’s guidance and look at the data provided within the full context of the Word assessing each of the views for correct motives and presuppositions. Therefore, this paper will examine the nature, timing, and duration of the millennium as well as the occupants of the millennial kingdom and the relationship of Israel and the Church to the millennial kingdom. The aim of this paper is to address “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place” (Rev. 1:1, ESV).
Daniel was a prophet and also the author of the Old Testament book of Daniel. The time period in which this book took place was between 560 to 530 B.C. (Smith). Daniel was a servant to King Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. King Nebuchadnezzar told Daniel to only worship the god of Nebuchadnezzar’s choosing and that Daniel could only eat certain foods. Daniel and his friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, refused to listen to the king. This choice resulted in all four of them being thrown into the burning flames of a furnace. They survived because of their faith in God and God saved them from death in the flames. Daniel also showed his faith in God when he faced the lions in the lion’s den. Daniel was told not to worship his God but he did anyways so he was thrown into the lion’s den. Daniel knew God was faithful and he had faith God would be there for him. Daniel also received visions from God about the coming Messiah and the end times. This is when Daniel’s prophecies began.
