Everyone in the world deserves to live their life with basic human rights and living standards. It is highly unethical for one to be demined of their basic human rights and living standards. In the novel 1984 written by George Orwell, the main character, Winston Smith works for The Party. The Party is the head government of Oceania. Winston works for the Inner Party which does not receive any more benefits than every other citizen. Although Winston works for the government, he is deprived of his basic human rights and living standards. Winston Smith lives in an environment where his life lacks of three major keys for a happy life, lack of privacy, freedom and living standards. Nobody had the freedom to think, act or say. Anything that was done without The Party’s approval could have an individual vapourized. Freedom is a very big key to one’s life. Without freedom, they are slaves. Coincidentally, one of The Party’s lines from their slogan is “FREEDOM IS SLAVERY” (Orwell 6). This means that The Party influences their citizens to work as much as they can because it will eventually it will provide them with freedom. This is very immoral because it is a lie. The Party is making people work for their freedom. If they are constantly working because the party has told them to then they have not received any freedom. People should have the option for where they want to work and what they want to do as a job. Winston had a job at the Ministry of Love. The Ministry of Love has an ironic name because it does not represent love in any way. The purpose of this department was to rewrite history to make it look as if Big Brother was never wrong and was infallible. This is very unethical because The Party has a department to rewrite history so that the civilians always think that Big Brother is right. Also not only were they forced to believe what happened in the past was wrong; if they ever thought or spoke about it, they would be vapourized. This is why freedom is a big value in most people’s lives and the reason why most live an acceptable
