The book Pride and Prejudice is a story that transcends time. Problems arise that today’s American society still face. They book has characters who believe they are better than the rest. It also has a rank class system that if a person does not fit into they are out of luck for happiness. There are many social issues that is in contrast to this day and age. The American dream is just that a dream. A dream that is out there for people to go accomplish. People in the American society today can rise to the top if they choose to and put in hard work. But also, back in the 1800s if some people are already rich they have the opportunity to become richer. That would happen if the money was already in the family. People cannot really poorer than they already are. When they hit rock bottom that is when they can rise and go to the top. For example, the homeless man with the golden voice. He was broke but was given a shot and now he rose from that down time in his life. But back in the 1800s-people kept their stature throughout their lives. In England 1800s the class system was surrounded completely by money. By having money back then it showed how important someone was and their worth. Their money defined who they are as people, like they are stuck in a box with money being the object. For their money gave people a chance to see them “to be proud” (pg. 12). In today’s society people let people be them to an extent. There are still gold diggers but a person’s money does not define who they are. Back in the 1800s all people really cared about was money, titles, and ranking. They did not let people figure out things for themselves but rather how can they be secure in the coming future. People cannot judge on status but rather on the person’s character. This gives a better representation of who the person really
