Electrolysis Experiment
Aim:
To find out how current affects the rate of electrolysis.
Pre-test:
Pre-test Apparatus:
1. Power Pack
2. Stop watch
3. 3 wires
4. Amp meter
5. A piece of Card
6. stop watch
7. Top pan balance
Pre-test Method:
Text Box:
1. Check to see if all the apparatus work by forming a small circuit
with a bulb
2. Collect apparatus and set them out like the diagram below. Ensure
that the positive wire leads to the anode and the negative leads to
the cathode.
3. Measure out 50 ml of copper sulphate
4. In to a small class beaker
5. Weigh cathode on top pan balance
6. Slide anode and cathode in to piece of card and place in
electrolyte
7. Turn on the power pack
8. Time until two minutes
9. Weigh cathode make sure you do not scrape off any copper
10. Repeat three times
11. Repeat for each current
Pre-test Findings:
By doing this pre-test I have learnt that:
* The analog amp meter is very unreliable it
* To be very accurate I need to use a multi meter
* To be careful not to scrape of copper when measuring weight
* Make sure that the anode and the cathode do not touch during the
experiment
* Make sure wires and power packs are working before you start
* To change the electrolyte after each experiment
* To use a stop watch instead of a clock as it is more accurate
* To use a variable resistor to get the exact current you need
Research:
There are many factors that affect the rate of electrolysis:
· The current
· The dept of the electrodes
What reaction was conducted in this experiment and with what reagents? Was there a reason for this reaction beyond just synthesis of product(s)? What techniques were used to purify and identify the product(s) of the reaction?
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the amount of water in Epsom Salt and determine whether the amount of water is equal to the theoretical value, when the chemical formula is MgSO4・7 H2O. To check the amount of water in epsom salt, 3g of epsom salt in each crucible 1, 2, and 3 were heated on 495℃. While the epsom salt was heated, white water vapor came out from the crucibles and disappeared in the air. According to the Table 1, as the epsom salt were heated, the mass keep decreased and when those were heated 5th and 6th times, 50 minutes and 60 minutes, there were no significant change in mass. From the Table 2, the leftover amount of anhydrous epsom salt in each crucibles were equal. There were 1.46g of MgSO4 in the crucible after the last heating and 1.54g of H2O was vaporized. Since the result of each trials are same, the standard deviation shows up as 0. By using the molar mass of each compound, MgSO4 got 0.0121mol and H2O got 0.0855mol, which the ratio of MgSO4 and H2O is 1:7.07. The mol ratio shows that when there are one MgSO4, there are 7 H2O. According to the chemical formula of epsom salt, which is MgSO4・7 H2O, the experiment shows that the experiment and the theoretical values are almost same. The random errors of the mass and mol for MgSO4 and H2O are 1.3699% and
In other words, it is measured in seconds, minutes, hours and so on. And we use devices and machines that tell us the time so we don’t get to interviews or school late. One particular example is a clock. We have clocks everywhere in the United States and the man to thank is Benjamin Banneker. Benjamin created America’s first clock in 1761. He started working on the invention ever since he was introduced to Josef Levi. The first time Benjamin met Josef was drawn by and fascinated by his watch that he was wearing so much that he hounded him down with all these questions about it. As Josef left, he decided to give Banneker the watch as a parting gift. Being that Benjamin is an inquisitive young man, he kept on dismantling and re-assembling the watch, studying the workings of it. He decided to build a wooden clock afterwards. Benjamin had made all the parts, big and small, by his hands very meticulously. All this hard work and concentration had paid off in the end because he was able to successfully construct a fully working clock that had lasted for at least three whole decades, keeping the time
In this experiment we are going to drop a paper cone with different sized weights in it from a height. Using a stopwatch we will time how long it takes for the cone to reach the floor. A stopwatch is used because it is very precise to the nearest 1000th of a second whereas a
Balance the following chemical equations and separate the coefficients by commas and a space respectively (put a 1 if the coefficient is assumed 1):
During his voyage, in order to keep track of time Christopher Columbus used an hourglass/sandglass, calendar, and also the stars. This worked ,but it wasn’t very convenient at times. If he used the sandglass, it would act as a timer ,but the
The other methods include using a stopwatch and timing a vehicle on a known distance, either from the ground or in an aircraft, and pacing a vehicle. Pacing a vehicle involves either matching speeds with the vehicle and checking your speedometer or locating distinct markings and counting so that you can again divide distance by time to obtain a speed.
5. Let go of the bob and allow one full cycle before starting the stop watch.
Time has always been a necessity for everyone. In the past, the mechanisms used in order to tell time were divergent and not very common because of the lack of technology. Now, every individual is capable of knowing the time because of the influence that technology currently has. Surprisingly enough, even time has an element that is very controversial. Individuals believe daylight light saving time, an adjustment to time that happens twice a year, is inessential because it is presumed to be unhealthy for humans. Although this might be true, this modification is, in fact, imperative across the globe because it saves an abundant amount of energy and it is beneficial for the people.
Many of us know that a watch indeed does have a designer, but what if we had never seen a watch made before or known of anyone capable of such design? Lacking this knowledge, Paley argues, should raise no doubt in our mind that the object must have a designer. Even if the watch told the wrong time most of the time, Paley says that the intended purpose of the watch to tell time is still obvious. Paley says we should still conclude that the watch ...
I must use the same amount of enzyme each time I do an experiment so I
Before the experiment, I wrote down a prediction. My hypothesis towards the experiment was that magnesium would have a bigger reaction with the acids. The reactivity of an element depends on its ability to gain or loose electrons which are used for bonding. The more reactive an element, the more easily it will combine with others. From this information, I know that magnesium has a stronger ability to gain or loose electrons which makes the metal more reactive.

Research articles, even when discussing the same issue or topic, can vary greatly in their opinions, method of research, and purpose for publication. When researching, it is important to keep an open mind to the many possible nuances of a topic, and realize that there are multiple viewpoints for each. The two opposing journals I acquired my research from were Volta Review and Sign Language Studies. The articles from these journals each give a unique perspective on Deaf people, from both the Hearing and Deaf lens, on the most successful way for Deaf people to communicate.
