What would the world look like without electrical engineering? Electrical engineering encompasses so many fields of interest that people’s everyday lives are affected by the creations that it has made. The world of technology can all stem from the fields of electrical engineering that can be studied. The music heard coming from the speakers, the monitors that show an abundance of information, and even the lights that are lighting a room are all products of electrical engineers. Electrical engineering has many important fields but the ones that are most influential on in society include computer engineering, communications, software and electronic systems. Within each of these fields are different characteristics that make each of them unique fields that help the others expand. For example, consider electronic systems and computer engineering. An electronic system has an aspect of computer engineering in it, where electronic systems engineers develop circuits and hardware for computers. The better that they make these devices the better the computer will function. With these better devices the computer engineers can use that to create better programs. The programs that are created from this can be used to create a better function for another field of engineering or just one’s daily life and because of this electronic engineering continues to improve and enter new fields of development. The changes in electrical engineering products in the fields of computer, telecommunications, and systems engineering affect the way people live in modern day society.

The number of cell phone users has increased rapidly and continuing to grow. ” As of 2010, there were more than 303 million subscribers to cell phone service in the United States, according to the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association. This is a nearly threefold increase from the 110 million users in 2000” (Cell Phones and Cancer Risk). That means currently 96% of the United States has a cell phone. Cells phones aren’t just becoming significantly more poplar in the U.S, “There are 6.8 billion people on the planet. 5.1 billion of them own a cell phone, but only 4.2 billion own a toothbrush” (Hopkins). Twenty years ago you would have never heard of someone having a cell phone over a necessary hygiene product, this says a lot about our todays culture.
In conclusion the car has been evolved and engineered for the up most safety for the passengers. In the paragraphs above, I have explained the three main aspects of how cars are becoming safer. Cars are known in my family as big killing machines which they are, I believe that car has the potential to cause catastrophic outcomes if the right precautions aren’t taken to make them as safe as possible for the passengers as well as the pedestrians who walk the streets.
In 2010, there was an estimated 5.3 billion cell phone users in the world. With that many people using this technology, people began to weigh the risks and benefits. While there are many advantages of owning and using a cell phone, there are also many disadvantages.
It then proceeds to examine the need for these skills in the real world and the need for these skills to be taught at university level. It starts by examining the general case of all students arriving in college for the first time and by the end gets to the particular needs of computer science students and others in the more practical disciplines.
The global demand for cell phones has increased significantly over the years-from 284 million in 1999 to 410 million units in 2000 to 510 million units in 2001.
My decision to become an electrical engineer was not a decision I took too long ago. It is something that I decided to pursue when I entered a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) high school. It was then that I realized how much I enjoyed working with computers and building circuits, and the fact that this career involved many subjects. Doing a lot of research to understand better what it meant to be an Electrical Engineer, I found out that in order to succeed in this career one had to know a little bit of everything. In other words, subjects such as science and math are essential to know if someone wants to be successful electrical engineer. An electrical engineer is someone who finds practical solutions to everyday problems that involve electricity, such as computers, cell phones, among other electrical equipments. In order to create a useful device one must know where to start and this is where science comes in. An electrical engineer must be able to use the scientific method, which means; one must form a procedure, test it out, and write a conclusion. These parts of the scientific method must be written clearly, so that others can recreate and test out a device or project. Math also plays a key role in this area of study, because one must be precise when creating a new device that others are going to use. As an engineer, you have a pressing desire to extend our biological capabilities and address the burgeoning needs for energy, water, housing, transportation, etc. This desire, I believe, could result in a flawed sense of security about the functionality of a machine. This could further result in ignoring possible repercussions and side effects. Overtime, we have seen a myriad of engineering catastrophes like Hurricane Katrina and the New Orleans Levee system and the Fukushima Reactor Meltdown. These examples enlighten me to the fact that I must pay critical attention to how my work as an engineer must be done without producing environmental alterations or harm to the society and environment.
Modern technology is changing mankind's way of life, and at the forefront, computers are paving the way. New media and technology offer new, and exciting jobs allowing humans to live at the speed of light. Computers have advanced our civilization and from now on, nothing will ever be the same. One thing is certain. Computer engineering will not be the same five years from now . . . maybe not even in five minutes.
Electrical Engineers research, develop, design, and test electronic components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, medical, military, and scientific applications (Cosgrove 749). They are concerned with devices that use small amounts of electricity that make up electronic components such as integrated circuits and microprocessors. By applying principles and techniques of electronic engineering they design, develop, and manufacture products such as computers, telephones, radios, and stereo systems (EGOE, 121). Electrical engineers touch everyone lives through the things they have designed or created. Electrical engineers have invented the lights in your house, the television, the stereo, the telephone, computers, and even your doctor’s blood pressure gauge (Stine 300).
As an engineering student, design, develop and test electrical equipments is the major purpose of all time. In other words, electrical engineer is concerned with using electricity to transmit electric power. In electrical engineering, there are extensive subfields such as power engineering, control system and signal processing. It is also worth to point out the difference between electrical engineering and electronic engineering. According to the research, electronic engineering is a major that deal with the electronic system such as computers and radar, to be more specific, electronic engineers are concerned with using electricity to process information.
In 1947 Howard Aiken, an engineer, predicted six computers would satisfy the computing needs of the U.S. By the year 1955, 244 computer systems were in use and by 1984 U.S. businesses and individuals purchased over two million personal computers. By 1994, shipments of over 47 million personal computers were made worldwide. The use of personal computers has increased rapidly over the past half-century and therefore the need for new hardware and software will keep the need for computer engineers to continue producing new products. The first position for a person becoming a computer Engineer is a Junior Computer Engineer.
If the nineteenth century was an era of the Industrial revolution in Europe, I would say that computers and Information Technology have dominated since the twentieth century. The world today is a void without computers, be it healthcare, commerce or any other field, the industry won’t thrive without Information Technology and Computer Science. This ever-growing field of technology has aroused interest in me since my childhood. After my twelfth grade, the inherent ardor I held for Computer Science motivated me to do a bachelors degree in Information Technology. Programming and Math, a paragon of logic and reasoning, have always been my favorite subjects since childhood.
Computer technology not only has solved problems but also has created some, including a certain amount of culture shock as individuals attempt to deal with the new technology. A major role of computer science has been to alleviate such problems, mainly by making computer systems cheaper, faster, more reliable, easier to use.
Software engineering encompasses various principles from both the computer science field and the computer engineering field to develop practical uses of software within hardware we use on a daily basis. With the passage of time, technology dependent on software has become increasingly prevalent. As a result, there will be a high demand for software engineers to sustain the eventual abundance of new and more complex computers.
Software engineering is important in today’s society because we use the products of software engineering almost daily. We use the products of software engineering in objects as simple as our car keys to objects as complicated as supercomputers. The past, present, and future of software engineering is quite interesting. This paper will provide information about this field of study and why software engineering is going to be around a while.
