Can you imagine how things were 20 years ago? How we communicate and exchange information with one another? Some things then may not be that accessible to us now, but in this day and age, everything is almost made possible by the advance communications technology surrounding us. Whether it’s printed, audio or visual materials, all are now within our reach, especially because global trading is made available to almost all over the world. And with the invention of internet all sorts of information are accessible to the youth in just a click away. Along with all these, just imagine the vast information being thrown in each and every one of us almost every second. However, as we always say, these developments may or may not be that all beneficial to us.
Yes, it is true that we can say that the world we live in now is a “well-informed” world than that of 20 years ago. This is thanks to the entire form of media made available to us throughout the years. Furthermore, this is mainly because; more and more companies are investing on distribution of such different form of media. They are well aware that a great percentage of the consumer population is willing to pay just to buy the latest in information and entertainment there is. Even the controversial and much talked about problem on piracy is undeniably, a great provider of information today, especially to the youth of some third world countries like the Philippines.
However, with all the exposure we have in all kinds of media, I am just wondering who are the people filtering all the information. And entrepreneurs should not make it an excuse to exploit the young minds of our generation just to earn money. Every bit of information we see has its advantage and disadvantage, a positive and negative effect or as what others may say has an evil and good side in it. We should always choose to see the good side and learn to resist the temptation being offered by all sorts of media. Just like what Peter Parker said in Spiderman, “with great power comes great responsibility”, so having access with all these information and entertainment, we should always bear in mind that, this should be used properly. Technology use was on the rise but has shown a significant increased rate in recent years. Technology was a beneficial tool that was used on a daily basis. Technology industries had developed many devices like computers, laptops, smartphones, iPods, and many other devices that made technology easier to access from anywhere and anytime. Technology expanded every day and the usage increased which had an effect on society especially targeting teens. Teens abused the use of technology that caused them to have serious problems mentally and physically. Teens mainly focused on technology use and caused a social disconnection from the real world. Technology use has a negative effect on teens by causing health problems and social disconnection.
Our time is dominated by graphic entertainments such as television, video games, the internet, and more. Many people today are disgusted by today’s popular culture and generally have a negative attitude about it. People today believe it is making us much dumber. They discredit it for what it is actually does according to Steven Johnson in his book Everything Bad Is Good For You. He proposes a total opposite point of view and that we underrate modern pictoric entertainment and media. The main premise of the book Everything Bad Is Good For You is that today’s pop culture is actually making us smarter and has grown more complex and intellectually challenging over the past few years. However, there is a possibility that they can encounter inappropriate materials even while searching for educational information or trying to relax with games. Violent scenes and uncensored sexual material cause serious damage for childhood development, as they can cause children to be aggressive and lonely adults. The first solution for protecting children from these harms is internet blocking and filtering programs. Although they come to forefront by means of their easy usage properties, most of the time filtering programs cannot provide an overall coverage from the internet’s harm. Therefore, parents should have involved in this process by monitoring and helping their children. Moreover media lessons which inform students about the internet’s harm can be very helpful for children.

The Impact of the Internet on Schools For this essay, I read an article called: The Netgeneration: The Internet as a classroom and community. After reading the article I came up with some very good points on how the internet has effected the way schools are run compared to the pre-computer and internet age. My conclusions are that the Internet has changed the school classroom for the good by making information widely available and usable to even the poorest of schools. Today is an era of information explosion. In the past few years, many newly invented technological devices and software are now tightly integrated with our everyday lives.
